Looks like there was enough interest in resolving the issue of wielding a big manly can opener and likely a marketing effort to make it easier for the wife to open her husband a can of beer when he came home after a hard day of work. Alcoa came up with the idea prior to venturing fully into zip-tops to give aluminum tops a go. Looks like Burger Beer from Ohio was the first to try it on the market in 1960. They (Burger) continued to market it continuously through 1961 and into 1962. By 1962 and into 1963, many others had joined in with the capability. Of course much of that was for not when zip-tops and pull tabs finally made it onto the scene in 1963.
I realize these are not all the known e-z open/ aluminum soft-tops but these are at least those I could find ads for using multiple key words to search (e-z ope, aluminum, etc.).......
And oh I tossed in the article naming the winners of the Tropical Ale "name the carrier" contest but sadly have no clue what the winning names might have been......

Here's a beautiful example that I was outbid on by $1.00 just last night.
I should have bid stronger!!

Flats, cones & early tabs. Ohio cans, ultra clean cans & shine. East coast cans. Rare rust. And, whatever else catches my eye.

Here are a few of the aluminum lid moments from beyond the continental USA - if by chance anyone has advertisements with dates - I am curious.
Expired once again in Portland ...
Still musing about cans

Fesenmeier ran these ads in 1962 and 1963
and finally the ad that I assume Alcoa helped pay for and design Huntington Herald-Dispatch 8-17-1963
