Does anyone know if he had other cans that weren't displayed? I recently picked up a gold/green Altes cone that has a stark collection sticker on the bottom but is missing in the photo between the Aero Club and Ambassador cans.

I never brought my camera over when I saw it in it's original configuartion in northern Illinois (twice)...but I will never forget it! I do have pix of Gene D's collection before he sold to Wagner... 2/3rds of it was from a man who was called the "J Paul Getty of Beer Can Collectors".

Thanks for the pic Bob. That's the most amount of cones I've ever seen in one place.

There are fewer than 500 cans shown in that photo and Dave had something like 2800 cans. Dan sold a number of cans before he got them set up in his shop and took that photo. It's difficult to even try to explain what it was like to see that collection intact.

Just an amazing collection. Wish I'd made it there to see it all.

I know this is sacraligious....... but is anyone else surprised by the display? Open shelves? What about dust, bumping, etc. Seems like he would have designed something different considering the exceptional collection he had assembled.

Marc, so the photo is of the cans in Dan M's shop after they were purchased from Dave S? Those aren't Dave Stark's shelves or set up?

I know I have a few Stark Collection cans on my shelf and they look great here also! It would be interesting to know how many of us have a Stark can on our shelves!

I've got pics of it. Don't feel at liberty to post them here as I was not the photographer. I'll look into the possibility of posting in the Member's section. They're not super high resolution unfortunately, but you can see the mind boggling scope and quality. Taken by Dan M.

Here's a pic of the cans that were part of the Great Midnight Air Lift to Indiana. The majority of these cans went to my friend who no longer collects and have since been dispersed. That was an exciting moment in collecting...

OMG! (right click, save as). That is amazing. I've never ever seen those white Schlitz cones before. I bet I'll be hiding out in the bathroom staring at these two photos for days.

There's a scratch on that one can though. Oh, maybe just a fleck of dust.

Amazing. Wish I'd seen it all together. Not sure how many I have--- I'd guess 5?

As amazing as Dave's cones were, it was the flats that really blew me away when I was there. I've seen one other cone collection that was nearly on a par with Dave's, but I've never seen a collection of flats - especially early ones - that came close to what Dave had. I saw ongrade examples of many cans I had never seen before, and many others that I had never seen in good condition before. It would have been easy to be intimidated by such a collection, but Dave was very down-to-earth and seemed to enjoy having us there almost as much as we enjoyed being there. Unquestionably THE highlight of all my years in collecting.

I'll see if my brother still has Gene DiCicco collection photos I took. I shot those back in the 90s, before there was ebay. That collection sold for $500K and was a real heartbreaker because if he waited a year or two, the collection could have gone for 5X that much on ebay. The big World Series earthquake between the As and the Giants knocked half of the collection down to the ground (pile 3 feet high) and that was part of the reason to sell it - too much too insure as well. It now resides in KC and I would venture to say, it is the top collection in the country.
