Tab Question , The Actual Tab part ?

#1

Post by JustJoe »

I received this Meister Brau Lite in the mail today. Nothing special. It is a fan tab, according to the USBC vol. 2 tab lid gallery it is an early America Can ring pull, same style. But the one in question has Aluminum stamped across the “fan” portion ? The gallery shows a later version ( Larger ) ring, with the “Aluminum” stamp on it. So I went to the composite list here and couldn’t find a similar one. Anyone seen this style before ? The stamping actually forms a support ridge on the top and bottom of the word ?

Maybe we just don't see enough of them intact. I have a Sterling, Duquesne Bavarian Beer, Ballantine Beer, Cold Brau, several Schmidt scene cans with the same tops

After looking a bit closer while some have a bit of a ridge starting above and ending below the word aluminum, none are as prominent as the one that you have pictured.

As you can see it is there just not as prominent. Some others also that way and some completely flat with aluminum stamped on them. More flat than raised ones.

My guess, looking at both, it looks like maybe positioning during the striking process or possibly different dies or die wear/adjustment may be the cause of the differences.

I think your right. The ridges have to stiffen up the tab (keep it from curling) when pulled, Almost makes me want to try it ? But than my right brain says to the left :smt021
