My Best Find of 2018, What your ???
Well, The year of 2018 is almost coming to the end. Actually, 5 days left. You may have time to find something before the year end.
I didn't do to well. I haven't gone out treasure hunt much this year, but I manage to find some breweriana stuff and soda stuff.
Dad's Root Beer garbage found at the antique store.. Royal Bohemian CT- Found in a sort like a antique store at a good price.( Note: I put on the crown cap on it ) Beer of North America book- Found at the Estate sale for a buck. Not photo- Beer Keg- Minneapolis brewing- Found at the garage sale.
Other interesting note. Since I couldn't make it to BCCA canvention in Omaha,Neb because I spend most of my $$$$$ on another vehicle. One of my highlight was attend the NABA convention in Madison, WI. I brought several breweriana stuff, but these 2 were standout. The Congress FT hunting theme- Took me a long time to find out at a reasonable price. Milwaukee Extra, I usually don't find one for sale but a little below the book valve price.
Feel Free to post your Best Find of 2018.

Huh? Of course dumpers are allowed. This site is called The Rusty Bunch isn't it?
Nice find by the way. Glad I was able to see your last can sell at For Wayne.
Focus: Cones and flats from Michigan, South Bend, and Fort Wayne. Foreign cans only if I bought them myself in the country of origin.

Re: My Best Find of 2018, What your ???
I had several good finds this year in spite of not being very active. During the first part of the year I was able to acquire a number of Billings Tap cones that were found by a contractor here in Portland. These were written up in the BCCA magazine and I still have some left if anyone is interested.
In July I managed to escape work for several days of digging. Like the proverbial blind squirrel, I stumbled across a large pit that had quite a few pre-war Golden Glows. This was the best of the bunch. Not too shabby for a dumper that's been buried for almost 75 years.
Hopefully 2019 has something similar in store.

Re: My Best Find of 2018, What your ???
Not really a find per-say, this one was on one of the better beer can seller sites, it had been for several months, it's not one of the rolled cans, I watched it until I couldn't take it anymore, made an offer and was able to work out a deal, this red POC can seamed to always haunt me at shows, as someone always beat me to a nice example just before I got to the person selling the can, this was before all the rolled cans started to show up and I really didn't want one of the rolled ones when they became available, I have two off-grade examples that have been on my shelf way too long, finally I have this one to replace them, long time coming.....

Re: My Best Find of 2018, What your ???
I have not been dumping since I was a teenager so I do most of my digging at the mailbox or at shows. Here are some of the things I got in 2018.
I am not entirely sure what the mini Silver Fox sign is. This is normally seen as a full size sign. Maybe this was something salespersons used to show upcoming promotions? I do not know but I like it.
The little thing that sort of looks like a thimble is actually a whistle. The idea is you would blow on it to get the bartender's attention. It is the only one I have ever seen. I bet after a little bit of whistling, bartenders grabbed them and crushed them under their heel.

Re: My Best Find of 2018, What your ???
This past year saw me pick up several cans I had been looking for for 25+ years. Pictured below are my favorites out of a couple hundred cans that I purchased, traded for or dumped in the last year.
Cans of note:
Heidelberg du feine- only seen one for sale in last 30 years I have been looking.
Champagne Velvet-rare enamel version
Lucky “bug” can from Vancouver, only one I had ever seen until recently.
Lucky “age mellowed”-tough can by interstate, second I had seen.
Old Style-this color apparently only sold in Oregon for some reason? (Would love to know the back story on this 1959 can)
Sicks 6 Select camo can W/D free-only 4 out there according to Lilek
Finer Flavor Ale- from Columbia, Tacoma,WA, enough said.
Rainier- 112-4. The last USBC listed Rainier can I needed. tough can.
Steinbrau- yellow test can
Lucky (white)-super rare “all white” production tab from San Fran.
San Miguel and Tuborgs both are flats that were the last cans worldwide that I needed respectively to have all their variations up until 2000 or so.
2018 was a good year all around with some Holy Grails obtained but overall also an expensive one.

Happy to have helped on these two! Not sure if the WF Sicks OD was mine too....don't think so....but pretty sure the FF and AH were. Adding to others "holy grail" list made my year!jinsequa wrote: ↑Wed Jan 02, 2019 2:32 pm This past year saw me pick up several cans I had been looking for for 25+ years. Re: My Best Find of 2018, What your ???
Yep...all three were yours.....that is why it was an expensive year. The "du feine" was certainly my TOP Holy Grail for close to 30 years.....so I had to spend what it takes to get it, if you know what I mean. The Green Brown Derby you had was my other Holy Grail but I ran out of money to blow on everything all at once and choices had to be made. Thank you none the less for the chance to check some serious boxes off of my can list.

Re: My Best Find of 2018, What your ???
The Lucky is unlisted in USBC. It is in one of the other books (bible?) It is all white at the top with no gold mountain cascade scene but has the gold lettering. Not a misprint...has different mandatory and can company than all the other similar ones.
The old style is a 12 oz. It is the color that is supposed to be a unique can to Oregon. There are more than this one floating around out there so again a production can.

Re: My Best Find of 2018, What your ???
I had not heard about this color only being sold in Oregon but have heard that it's an oddball can that the Wisconsin guys like. I did dump a few in central Oregon several years ago so most definitely a production can that was apparently sold in the Northwest. I think we have only found them once so mostly likely very limited distribution out our way. I may still have one in my totes.
