Great Lakes CS

#1

Post by Malt Lager »

I just added this crimped steel Great Lakes can from Great Lakes Brewing, South Bend, Indiana to my collection. I only added it because I've never seen a CS Great Lakes before. Tell me about this can Indiana guys, or king of pulls, Mr. Aho. I wish it was a pull tab but it isn't. Would someone roll this? The seam appears to be factory rolled. It's a National Can Co can.
Thanks for any info.

Never saw either the Great Lakes or the Near Beer before. Both of those have got to be really tough!

I may not be a expert on this, Since CS started in the 1980's, where you seen some pull tab and lift tab lid. I think somebody on the RB. stated that if can ship way out west that banned pull tab. I don't know which state. Washington or Oregon . So I assume that company try to sell beer way out west used as a flat top lid. ???
I never seen a CS Great Lake can Flat top can but I do have a CS Flat Top PBR.

The timing of crimped cans is a bit earlier than the 1980's. I have no idea when the Great Lakes can dates from - so not commenting on it being a 1980's can. Unsure how to link to the discussion topic, but started one a few months back under "FEELING CRIMPED" if you are curious.

Stay tabs weren’t on crimped steel cans sold in Oregon and washington during that period to my knowledge. Also, That type of stay tab wasn’t used on pac nw cans. That type of stay tab tended to be used in the upper midwest. (Cold Spring, Schell’s). As for the Oregon soft tops they were all aluminum soft tops and they all have an Oregon refund statement on them.
