Berghoff Stout ML on ebay
I wanted this Berghoff Stout Malt Liquor that just closed on ebay, but it went too high for me at $1000. I was surprised it went that high, considering the condition. Tough can though. It would have been nice to go with my other two Berghoff cans of that family. Which is tougher, the Stout ML or the plain ML? Both are seldom seen, but I think maybe I've seen more of the Stout ML. Opinions anyone?

Re: Berghoff Stout ML on ebay
That seller had numerous really nice cans from Fort Wayne. They were all out of my price range but still nice to look at. As for which one is tougher, I do not know. As you said, neither one are everyday cans.
Focus: Cones and flats from Michigan, South Bend, and Fort Wayne. Foreign cans only if I bought them myself in the country of origin.

Re: Berghoff Stout ML on ebay
Stout is way tougher I figured 700 area .
Most went pretty high the Berghoff Ale did
Well considering humidity issues as did Centlivre.

That’s what I’m wondering. If they’re in my neck of the woods or not.

I'm not sure about other regions, but Stout Malt Liquor was the required description in California in the 50's and 60's.

Re: Berghoff Stout ML on ebay
As and Indiana collector, I watched and placed a few bids on these cans... the Berghoff Olive Drab cone mostly stopped at $1000 on the Centlevre, which I thought might be at $800 can in that condition .... at a time when some minty cans out there are going cheap, these Grade 3ish cans certainly did sell for premium... however, It had been suggested to me, by an old time collector, that these are possible "IU cans"... anyone know this story? Indiana Collector in the 80's, who taught some kind of art class at IU (Indiana University) gave cans like this to his art students to repaint - some of the cans were painted great, some not so great, depending on the skills of the student - regarding the Centlivre, he thinks it is one of these IU cans.... suggests looking closely at photo #4 in the listing and you can see the signs of repaint... I DO NOT KNOW if this story is true and I'm not a good judge of repaints...
I'd post the photo, but I haven't posted too many photos because it seemed too cumbersome to upload to PhotoBucket, generate a link, copy, and paste here... is that how you still do it? or is there an improvement Im not aware of for posting photos? can I somehow drag a .jpeg photo to this box and the photo will show up?

Re: Berghoff Stout ML on ebay
I think that Centlivre was my can at some point. I don't believe it had any repaint - was just humidity spotted. Pretty nice for an off grade example.
The Berghoff Stout Malt Liquor is much much tougher than the Malt Liquor, however both are rare on grade. For many years, I could only account for 2 of the Stouts. A few more have appeared in recent years, all off grade. Some of the Fort Wayne guys might have an actual count of them.
I've never heard anything about "IU cans".
