Wiedemann zip with Soft top bottom

#1

Post by zoinkss »

Pulled this out of a recent rust collection I picked up. Must be an early zip and the brewery was using up the soft top lids they had left.
The other Wiedemann zip I have on now is a keglined Am Can. this one is a Heekin.

The top lid looks like a later zip version. The Aluminum top came out almost simultaneously with the zip, just before the zip. I assume they wanted to get rid of the unused tops. LEON.

Can has a Heekin canning code. Thought those were earlier than the Am Can codes (1960). Maybe they were using up both the zip tops and the Soft Top lids. Just thought it was unusual enough to show.

Not too unusual, I seen quite a few like that, Utica Club & Point come to mind.

I guess if you are a brewer and you are running short on lids to finish canning a batch and you only had these soft top lids left, why not use them to finish off a run. Waste not want not.
I like these types of canning idiosyncrasies because it explains some of the things we see from the production line.

I have the same Wiedemann. I've always assumed the same thing - the brewery was just using up obsolete inventory.

Maybe they were just giving the consumer more options to open the can
