Reviving a 3 year old thread. Years ago I picked up 4 Pabst zip tops out of a 1965 house in Concord MA. Only 1 of the 4 cans had the “Non Opener Needed” (NON) banner which at first didn’t mean anything to me until I was made aware of this being odd by fellow RB’s. It was odd because there weren’t any Pabst zip top cans in the book, from any city, that didn’t have the NON banner (until 1 of these 3 was pictured for the book). All 4 cans were brewed in Newark and listed 3 other cities.
Why revive this old thread? Because I looking at the unrolled flat sheets that I recently picked up, I noticed that the Pabst sheet is also a Newark 4 cities. Another thing I had overlooked 3 years ago was that the book didn’t have any Pabst 4 cities cans without the NON banner (other than LA I believe although that has a different design with the “12 fl. oz.” in a box on left of front label)
Is this just an oversight that the book doesn’t have any other Pabst 4 cities cans without the NON banner? Also, nobody has ever been able to produce another example of a Pabst 4 cities zip without the NON banner. Of the 3 that I picked up: 1 is on my shelf, 1 went to @baartz Brian Artzberger and the crushed one was recently corrected by Art and is currently available. If you have one (from any city) please add a picture to this thread.

Dear Paul,

I still have the Zip without the NON. Here is a photo of all the PBR early tabs I have from Newark, NJ.

1. The Zip Top without the No Opener Needed Line
2. Typical NON with 4 cities
3. NON with Puerto Rico on the bottom face
4. NON with 5 cities, includes Pabst GA.

All of these are metallic Silver. I have yet to find a dull Silver NON can from Newark. I have never seen another PBR Zip without the NON statement besides yours Paul Pbama.

Cool line-up! Now the question is are there any other non-NON’s with 4 cities out there?
Thanks Brian!
