A mystery can that turned out to be a pre-war sleeper

I was going thru some of the cans I dug over the summer and came across a 1-punch mystery can. I could see lines of an oval and lines separately the side panels and had no idea what it was (this is always fun!) I soaked in a strong oxalic acid bath and this Buffalo came out. It is the much rarer "Pride of Sacramento" IRTP variation by Buffalo. One lid has a pressure bead while the bottom doesn't. It is a 2 Pats other Pending with makes it pre-war! I think a lot of people under appreciate this can as it is confused with the much more common "Pride of California" by Southern of Los Angeles that was in the first wind-tunnel find years ago in California. Both Dale & Herman have never dug this can, which says a lot because of large percentage of rare California cans on collectors shelves were dug by them. This must be a 1941-42 can!

@Bob L Bob...yours is the silver version USBC 45-14 http://bcca-usbc-supplement.com/FivePan ... @CanType=F but can't tell if your IRTP is in red or black.... @Cap-Sealed Ed is like USBC 45-13 http://bcca-usbc-supplement.com/FivePan ... @CanType=F but the one there is not "Others Pending" @conesplus Neil is yours "Others pending" or like USBC 45-13??

Sorry, I can't read the Pat. info., too rusty.
Definitely looks like the 45-13, but the lids are not 30's.

Hey Bob, does yours have IRTP at the bottom in Black lettering???
Both the ones pictured in the book have red writing at the top and bottom.
Faded? or new variation???

This can was found on our summer Dumping trip with Dale and Rusty. It was at the same place where they dug the huge pit with the Willows. Remember when you and Rusty took off looking for some other spot for awhile and Dale and I hung back? There was a pit of about a dozen of them up the hill quite a ways and off to the right next to a barbed wire fence. Unfortunately there was a large battery in with them and that destroyed most. I kept two or three that were solid so you need to look around some more. They are probably mixed in with all the red ball Acme's. We could tell they were that style Buffalo but were not sure what vintage. My guess was Sacramento's though because the pit seemed older than the early 50's.

I meant to ask you what happened to them since they never made their way into the photos of the cleaned cans. Now I know.

Dale cleaned all the cans except for the ones that were pretty bad... he didn't want to spend the time on them and many of them went into the trash can. He said he remembered you had found some but wasn't sure you took any home. This may be one the only one that got away!

BTW - Dan had a decent one from the Tucson collection on ebay...nobody even looked at it. I told Dale about and he bought it in a heartbeat!
