Unlisted Lucky can....

#1

Post by jinsequa »

Picked the following unlisted “white” Lucky pull tab up. (Can on left in the pic) Been hunting one for a couple years after seeing one at Pat Franco’s in his massive collection of everything Lucky and he said it was a rare short run production can. It is radically different than any of the other 4 listed metallic Lucky cans (89-25,26,27,28) and I do not think it is a misprint since the gold lettering is present on both this can and the listed ones. Just the metallic gold mountain cascade is missing. The can also has a much larger mandatory than the four listed cans do and the gold piping is different on the "Lucky Lager Beer" (see pic). Is it a run made before or after the 4 listed metallic Lucky’s? Was it a mistake and just went with it? Anyone know anything about this can?

That can was actually shown in the Beer Can Collector's Bible from the mid-1970's, can #1673. I've never seen another one and it certainly didn't make it into USBC (didn't check the online supplement). It does look like a legit variation to me. Nice pick-up!
