YOUR FORUM NAME - TURNING ORANGE

#1

Post by Sea Monkey »

It is coming up on that time of year again for many of us. Renewal time. In the past when your membership expired you user name turned from black in color to ORANGE and you lost your MEMBER privileges. Most of us just plain forgot to renew before it was too late!

Your esteemed BOD, in an effort to make it easier to renew BEFORE loosing your MEMBERSHIP privileges, will start turning the renewal candidates ORANGE starting November 15th. The benefit to the Members will be that they have the Orange name reminder but WILL NOT loose their privileges until 1-1-2019 unless they renew. This will make sure there is no interruption of benefits to the Member! The secondary benefit is that the renewals will be more orderly and much less stressful for the Web Master and Treasurer...... :smt023

NOTE: Click on the JOIN / RENEW link at the top of each forum for directions of how to renew

When you mentioned orange, I thought you were referring to what Santa is putting under the tree for me this year.

Paid last year for my name to be black for the year. And now it is orange and the year aint over yet. It just doesnt seem like the right thing to do to paid members.

I don't think any offense was intended. I think they are doing it this way just to get a head start on the process. I equate it to receiving a renewal notice for a magazine subscription even though I still have a few issues left to go on my current subscription.

I understand what you are saying. Here is the reason we did this. (remember, you didn't lose any membership privileges)

Every year on January 1st we have about 30% of the membership lapse their dues, so the procedure for this is as follows.

1: Open the Admin Panel, Click Users, Type in the Username, Click Submit.

2: Click a dropdown and choose "Groups"

3: Click "Remove User From Group"

4: Click "Yes I'm Sure"

5: Repeat 150 times.

6: Go to the Home Page and do this all again there except I can bulk remove members as they come up 30 members per page.

Takes about a minute per User x 150 = 2 1/2 hours or so.

Now, on January 2nd everyone starts renewing because they went orange and guess who gets to place them back into the RB member group following the above steps??

The way we are doing it now, I just have to do steps 1 and 2, then step 3 is "Change Default Group", and bam ! You're orange but still have all the Membership capabilities and I don't have to do anything on the Homepage. Took 20 minutes to do that.

In the 2 weeks since this initial post we've had 35 renewals. Spending a minute here and a minute there is way easier than 2 + hours. Hopefully more will renew before the cutoff (I know @josh will wait til the 2nd because that's the way he rolls :smt028 )

Anyway, if anyone has a suggestion on how to get renewals in without having to do this, let us know.

Jonn, we made the change so there would be a reminder BEFORE you lost any types of privileges. "Most" members will renew either way. With this new "reminder" procedure those people will experience NO lapse in membership privileges. The other part is the lightening of stress on the webmaster and associated functions. We will run it this way this year and evaluate/tweak it for next year. Your input is appreciated... :smt023
