I believe the difference is Narragansett in black or green. I'm not aware of a version of this Ale with black mandatory...not to say it doesn't exist.

Bob, if you are gonna build your collection by never leaving your Den on the tube, then those Ales will run you $40 to $60. But if your gonna go to the great shows that our hobby has from Cape Cod to California you'll be able to find those for $5 to $10 all day long! Woody

The green letter sells for 40-50. The black letter is more common, typically 10-20, if memory serves me.

Some complete idiot paid $65 for the green letters on ebay because they needed it, they hadn't bought anything in ages, and he was bored, got into auction frenzy, and probably (definitely) had one too many beers on a friday night. Nice can but I don't get why the green go for the money they do. The black letters is probably, like Woody and Ed said, a $15 maybe $20 can. Then there's the blackish green or greenish black variety we have, but I'm going to credit that to my eyes getting old.

The ale with the dark green Narragansett logo and green ALE is the tough one, as long as it also has the GREEN SHIP. The same variety with the BROWN/GOLD ship has been getting $$ action on Ebay recently-- perhaps out of confusion because it's a lot more common than the green ship version (one of which went for $175 last February on eBay.

Acquiring a can you always wanted without putting a 400 dollar hole in your pocket after doing the math for 60 bucks and getting to go to your kids baseball game or recital? I only see one idiot.
Thank you! I've been saying that for years. I hate it when a collector calls someone an "idiot." I've been "that idiot" many times.

@Grommet Agreed. The green ship is a sleeper.
