Doesn't change. Every year if falls on November 11th.

If you know a Veteran, take a moment and tell him or her "Thank You For Your Service!" If you're out and about and you see a grizzled old man with a ball cap with the name and number of a ship on it, that probably was the ship he served on. Take a moment and tell him "Thank You For Your Service!" If you've got a relative or friend that served, take a moment to contact them and tell them "Thank You For Your Service!"

It's just five little words to show appreciation for the freedoms we enjoy in this country. You've heard it before, freedom has never been free nor is it just "given out." So, show your appreciation to a Veteran, someway, somehow.

Thank You to all our veterans!

My grandfather was part of the AEF in WWI. He was in Battalion A of the 136th heavy field artillery and kept a diary of his time in service. This is what he wrote 100 years ago today:

Work about 2 hours. Half froze with wet feet in sticky mud. Dead on my feet. Out early. Eat a good meal as rations have come. After breakfast firing again. 10:55 am pulled the lanyard on the last shot into Germany. Orders came down to the Captain: Cease Firing! Ray Ray WAR OVER. A regular dinner and cleaned up, wash face and hands for the first time since the 8th. Night-my luck on guard all night!

He kept the lanyard from that last shot and passed it to my Dad and he passed it to me. Here's picture of it.

Nice memento, Joe. That diary must be really a good insight into what your grandfather had to go through back then. Thanks for sharing such treasures!

A day to honor our Veterans and reflect on the 100th anniversary of the end of the “War to end all Wars.”

Although this poem was written by an English poet about English Veterans I’ve related it to all Veterans.
