One tab that I thought could bring 10k is the Soul 8 ounce can that was rumored to be at least produced (maybe never filled) the soul cans always had this mystique about them, always a strong selling can too.

but cannot locate it - maybe a better researcher could find it .
Maybe Keith can find it in his Newspaper Archives Subscription?

And I used to complain about the stupid money being spent when someone paid 500 for a 200 dollar can! This is batshit crazy now!

Re: Question: First $10,000 tab?
@Dan B Old posting but wanted to revisit the soul 8 ounce discussion. Ever find the image or details?
This would have had to have been the best $1 one would have ever spent back in 1968 and 1969.

Re: Question: First $10,000 tab?
I remember seeing that somewhere, but I've only been on RB for a year so I saw it elsewhere. It could have been in one of my books, but it seems more likely that it was a BCCA article. If that's the case it would have been 1990 or earlier.

Re: Question: First $10,000 tab?
I agree with Ed - in the 16 oz alone - not including test cans there are quite a number - limited numbers known - and almost unknown or not known on grade, $3K easy for an on-grade example - or even best known slightly off-grade to reach $3K or moreoldmoneytexan wrote: ↑Mon Oct 15, 2018 5:18 pmI know of many tabs that have sold well north of $3000.Malt Lager wrote: ↑Mon Oct 15, 2018 4:41 pm I just have to ask...are there any tabs that are valued at $5,000 yet? $3,000? It looks like the Playmate ML is the only can approaching 2K.
ML
Red Altes ZT
Burgermeister - Longview, TX
Calgary Malt Lager ZT
Calgary Malt Liquor ZT
Carling Malt Lager ZT
Mannchester Fan Tab
Narragansett Flip-Top ZT
Regal ZT
I could easily see any of these cans today hitting $5K in an auction - they all I think hit in desirable collecting areas and would draw a lot of action
But $10K? I think the Red Altes has best shot at $10K in an auction situation - even over any 16oz Test cans.
Collector of Nebraska cans and breweriana, Colorado cans, tall straight steel US cans, and cans I like!

How many Red Birds are out there? Weren’t a couple sheets found in a Pabst employee’s lunch box, discovered by his son?

edit: after searching a little further Barfly has the answer.
Thank you, Barfly! Great cans.

Re: Question: First $10,000 tab?
I heard the story about the six sheets, rolled, 3 lidded as tabs, and 3 as flats. While it is a nice fantasy story, it just doesn't jive. Can companies didn't run litho sheets individually... large sheets are cut down. They don't run one off's, only the artist mock up crap is done that way. If your developing artwork, and creating litho plates, you certainly don't litho one can body at a time. I've seen just over a dozen of the tabs sold in the last tweenty years, and they certainly weren't the "original" three being traded around that many times (lids didn't match, etc). Two more flat sheets (at least) surfaced several years back... my gut hunch it's closer to twenty among active collectors (possibly more)... can collectors tend to horde cans and become reclusive in their collecting, and they sit there staring at them until they pass.Ziphippie wrote: ↑Tue Apr 26, 2022 1:02 pm How many Red Birds are out there?
