I was going thru a box of openers I had in the garage and came across this Eveready Prestone opener. Anyone see this one before? Any value to it?

Thx Ed

I have not seen this opener before but based on the picture below, I am not surprised it exists.

Can piercers were invented in 1932 for opening containers with other liquids. Once canned beer proved successful demand significantly increased for church keys. Given away by the millions American Can lead the production way, then a few years later licensed Vaughn Manufacturing to handle this specific load. They were the largest producer. Competitors were Crown, Ekco, Emro, Greene, Handy Walden and Mira.

What you acquired is a combination cap lifter/can piercer. From the softcover publication, Just For Openers, this opener identifies as style I-7. This 160 page guide, published by Schiffer Publishing in 1999, lists a value of $1-25. With production numbers unknown, anyone identifying with this from initial release is likely dead. Presenting this at a collectible show could possibly draw $10. More realistic would be a five dollar bill.

I’ve seen one of those Everready Prestone openers before, but don’t have it in my collection. I do have one that has the “keglined” trademark on one side and the other side says: “DRINK WON UP”
Not sure if Won Up is a soda or other type of drink.
Haven’t seen another one of those openers although I’m sure there are plenty out there.
