Worthwhile Aluminum or Crimped Cans?
Hi -
I’ve recently acquired a couple of collections and as I’m going through the cans I automatically toss both the aluminum and crimped cans in the “to be discarded/given away“ box. I sort all the SS and put those in a separate box to be further evaluated for trade/sale stock or eBay. Is this mindset ignorant? I’ll bet I’m not the only collector that does this! Are there any aluminum or crimped cans or variations worth keeping an eye out for?I ask this as I did see a can on a dealers site that appeared worthless but instead was valuable (I believe it was Red White & Blue made by Pearl in San Antonio). Thanks!

Re: Worthwhile Aluminum or Crimped Cans?
Can you think of/list any examples to look out for? Would be nice if there was somewhat of a formal listing on this website or somewhere out there. Saw another example (outside of the Red, White & Blue one that I previously pointed out; although I got the brewery wrong it s/b Lone Star and not Pearl) in the book; it was a Miller Lite with the word "Miller" in the wheat stocks of front label. Ton of cans in the Test Cans section of book also fit the bill but those would stick out like a sore thumb if you glanced at one of them because it would look odd. Thanks!

Re: Worthwhile Aluminum or Crimped Cans?
I always cringe when I hear about people recycling 70's and 80's tabs. When I returned to the hobby, I knew I needed to narrow the scope of my collection. I put all my tabs in groups of 500 and then sold them on craigslist for $50 per group. Yes, I made very little and it was more work than tossing them in the recycle bin but I saw it as a way of drawing new blood into the hobby. One guy was browsing craigslist looking for something else and saw my cans. He thought they looked cool so he bought 500 for the man cave he had in his pole barn. Another guy had not collected since he was a teenager but my ads caused him to return to the hobby. I bet he bought 3,000 cans from me. One guy called me up and said he sold crafts at craft shows. He told me he needed 200 cans so he could make "canjos". He went on to say it was important they were really common labels that people would recognize. I sorted out all the Buds, Pabst, and so forth and then sold them to him.
Focus: Cones and flats from Michigan, South Bend, and Fort Wayne. Foreign cans only if I bought them myself in the country of origin.

Re: Worthwhile Aluminum or Crimped Cans?
To clarify my use of the word “disgarded”: I’ve actually had an ad for a free collection of beer cans out on Craigslist for over a week trying to give them away but no takers just yet. A few inquiries but nothing followed through yet. I would never throw them away or recycle them!

Re: Worthwhile Aluminum or Crimped Cans?
Anything by Dixie/ Royal crimped is relatively tough. SS I'm looking for Dixie Light Light Light with calorie information on the side and any Fischer Light by Royal.
Collector of fine rust, craft cans, and anything related to New Orleans area breweries past and present.

....and don’t forget that Jax/Jax lite aluminum set by General Brewing of Tumwater, WA you Jax collectors all want.Dixie Dave wrote:Anything by Dixie/ Royal crimped is relatively tough. SS I'm looking for Dixie Light Light Light with calorie information on the side and any Fischer Light by Royal.
Right now I am on the hunt for an aluminum Eastside Lager by Blitz-Weinhard of Portland, ORegon...I think if I find that one it would be the very last can I need to have every can made by them. I would pay or trade well for it.
