Juice top lids
@kamsquared got me looking at my juice tops for a top opened "accordion" style juice top. Without the ring indention. I don't have one. But I noticed three variations. One with nipples, one gold, and one silver. Anyone have any others?

Re: Juice top lids
I've always wondered why the juice tab (insert tab) is not pictured in the USBC II (tab) book.
Anyone know why? Just an oversight?

Re: Juice top lids
@Leon , notice the indention where the ring was? See if you have a top opened juice without the indention. The accordion style did not have the indention, and it seems all the no indention juice tops are bottom opened.

Re: Juice top lids
Does anyone know when juice (insert) tops came into existence? I thought I read somewhere that they were out on other products before canned beer. I could be completely wrong there.
Also, as I look at the "accordion" tabs, I get the impression they are elevated somewhat above the lid, possibly making them easier to grab and therefore not needing the indent. I think the "ring" inserts are pretty flush with the lid which might make them more difficult to grab if it didn't have the indent there. Just thinking out loud.

Re: Juice top lids
Cool cans, OMT- nipples are cold indicators!
Apologize for the hijack- I’ve seen the indented blue tops but they were all soda cans from Grafs, Milwaukee. Ziphippie

Re: Juice top lids
I always assumed they were out the same time as zips, but I have a Houston Live Stock Show and Rodeo program from 1967 that has a Jax Go Texan ad that shows a accordion zip pull juice tab can, so they were later than zips.
I know the ring top insert juice tops were used on non-carbonated, straight sided steel drinks well into the 80's on stuff like Kern's juices and Slim Fast drinks. I stocked these products while working at a grocery store in high school.

Re: Juice top lids
Why did they switch to insert juice tops from zip tops in the first place and then proceed to utilize them only for one run of cans most of the time?
Did they think they were more cost effective and that they worked better but found out they weren't better after the initial run of cans?
Of all the juice tops I have, only the Brew 102 used the juice top on more than one label design.....
Just wondering......

Re: Juice top lids
Found a Keglined site that showed this patent and then the item on a Brown Derby can. Suggesting that patent was gotten almost 30 years before insert/juice tabs were used. There's more to the patent but I just trimmed it to the juice-like pictures. And I added the can.

Re: Juice top lids
The question begs to be asked. Is there now juice tabs and juice ring pulls, like the U "Lift Tab" & "Lift Ring"?

Re: Juice top lids
Here are two oddities.
1. The Rheinlander is the only juice top to come out of Oregon and Washington that I know of. Looks legit and original to the can. Why the only one? Test?
2. The two Brew 102 cans have the same insert lid but different can company marks (American vs National). They both look legit and not relidded. Why same lid on both? Is one not legit?

Re: Juice top lids
There has to be more 905’s out there, honestly don’t remember where that one came from.
I always wondered about the Rhinelander, it’s not in the book as an insert either- here’s a pic of the seam on mine. Ziphippie
