Common or Tough or in between ?

#1

Post by beerhunter14 »

I recently pick up these cans at the show as I thought it sort of unique. Olympia Dark brewed by Pabst in Tumwater Washington . Lemon Bolt- I think I believe it has a early Gov't warning label on it. It has a years on it 1996, Black Widow breweing . St. Paul , Mn ( I don't think they are still in business ? I could be wrong.) . Both of these cans are sta-tab bottom opened. . My question is Are these 2 cans are common or tough or In between ?

I don't think these cans are particularly tough--they seem to show up on eBay with some frequency. But I still think that mid-90's tabs are very underrated as a group. If there were a lot of demand for them, the supply wouldn't be enough ...

Oly dark - between Pabst and Olympia there are 3 variations, all pretty common.
Lemon bolt is one of those 90’s cans that gets no respect but though not terribly common is still not worth much.

Black Widow Brewing Co., is from the old Minnesota Brewing Co., which closed in (I think) 2002. They made some cans for export that are tough to find. I would love to see a of composite of Minnesota Brewing Co. cans. Anyone got one?

All right....
Got home and looked and I had 4 variations of the Oly Dark and all by Pabst. (Memory is not what it used to be) There were 2 major label changes and 1 variation on each major label. Each had different lids.
Pic from left:
1. Has dark waterfall scene, cant see through bridge, gold CA redemption lid, brew info is above UPC, American-National(?) can symbol
1a. Lighter waterfall scene, see through bridge, silver EZ stay tab lid, brew info is above UPC, National can symbol, came with sticker on lid...I don’t think it belongs there. (1995 Brew Reserve)
2. Gold Govt. warning above UPC, silver brew info to opposite seam, gold CA redemption lid, silver (not faded gold since vibrant gold is in the horseshoe) writing and hops under horseshoe. Crown cork and seal can symbol with can design number below UPC
2a. Light metallic green govt warning above UPC, gold brew info, gold bank top, gold writing and hops under horseshoe, Crown cork and seal can symbol below UPC

I picked up at least the bank top and one other directly from the brewery. I would not be surprised if Pabst produced it in other cities as well like they did the regular, dry, draft, gold etc.

jinsequa - Thanks for your wreath of knowledge. I never knew it come in 4 variation. I always thought any cans that brewed in Tumwater -would be a tough can but that not the case. The reason I pick these 2 cans hoping it would be a Super Rare or Tough Sta-tab can. But No !! Therefore it goes on my trade stock.
