A Common Zip
I don't want to Hi-jack the Thread about the Duquesne Zip....But I do have a Question....It was stated that that Can was no more than a 30.00 to 35.00 Can?...So if You have any really Clean Bottom opened Zip it could Command Top Dollar?....I Mean what is Considered a Common Zip Top??....They are over 50 Years Old now.To find a Bottom Opened Example of any Zip Top that is Very Clean has to be rather Tough?....I My Self have only One that I would Consider Pristine and it is a Big Cat from Milwaukee...I also have Big Cats from Peoria and L.A. in not nearly as nice Shape.
There not Rare by any means but are getting Older every Day!!....So what are some Common Zip Top Labels?...We all know what the Rare ones are!!

Re: A Common Zip
Not a zip. Just trying to find a top opened one. That can came out at the peak of collecting, and everyone bottom opened it. I'm trying to find a top opened one for the bottom lid. Been looking for years.Leon wrote: ↑Sat Aug 04, 2018 12:12 pmoldmoneytexan wrote: ↑Sat Aug 04, 2018 10:23 am Speaking of "most common," try to find a top opened Dunks.

Re: A Common Zip
Is the pabst zip hard? I got one at a flea market, although you always see the ring pull with the 'no opener needed' ribbon. Never searched for them but don't recall many around, either.
Better to drive 950 miles and kick asz than go a thousand miles and get nothing.

Re: A Common Zip
It should follow that the most common clean bottom-opened zips would be from the nationals and large regional brewers.
Budweiser, Schlitz, Pabst, Miller, Black Label, and Falstaff for nationals.
Ballantine beer, Ruppert, Schaefer, Rheingold, Strohs, Hamms, Lucky, Olympia, Busch, Old Milwaukee, Drewrys, Colt 45, Burgermeister, and Blatz should be the most common regionals.
Any exact ranking of these would depend on how many were bottom opened by drinkers who did not like using the tab (cut fingers, lips, preferred the churchkey method, etc.) Then those cans would have to be put away, intentionally or otherwise, in dry attics, within walls or buried under heaps of clutter and forgotten about, and then be discovered by collectors.

Re: A Common Zip
Pretty much all of those, if really clean, like uber clean, still bring some money. Bottom opened of course.oldindiapaleale wrote: ↑Mon Aug 06, 2018 9:42 pm It should follow that the most common clean bottom-opened zips would be from the nationals and large regional brewers.

I'm guessing at some point, an entire warehouse of either bottom opened or air sealed Royal 58 zips were found. Way too many of those around.

Re: A Common Zip
Speaking of Pabst, here's a few. I like to collect variations of the zip tops just as much, if not more in some cases, as breweries/cities. To my knowledge, these lids are all original to the cans. AND, doesn't break the bank to acquire them!mrlager428 wrote: ↑Wed Aug 08, 2018 5:36 pmIn My opinion a Pabst No Opener Needed Zip is not real common!!....I have a nice clean one that is Top Opened and from Milwaukee...I an still Looking for a Pabst Bock Zip from Milwaukee with no luck!!

Re: A Common Zip
I found a lot of Jax and Regal zips at a bar dump back in the day that were mostly bottom opened. A couple were top opened and some had can opener holes through the tab, so someone wasn't a fan of the new tops.

Minty Wunderbar zips also come to mind, mine is a tab- see more of them than dumpers. Ziphippie

Re: A Common Zip
Agreed. The Wunderbar zip and early tab are sleepers when minty clean. I've been lucky enough to cross paths with these. They should be worth a lot more but with the thousands of "hole" cans out there, they don't get the respect they deserve.

So the ole' common Big Cat brings $260. Has to be a record for a non Stout, non Malt Lager, Big Cat.
