Thanks! Not exactly sure. Like most things, it was a rolling start. My first OI was a Miller mixed in with my other flats, then others crept in, I think Pabst was next......and at some point my focus just sorta shifted toward them perhaps without actually making a conscious decision......next thing you know, I'm up to my ears in 12 Horse and Bud canning code variations. :-) Will say it's fun going to a canvention (in tahoe now) looking at cans with an unbiased eye. Got my first lesson in Ranier Jub variations....a conversation I would never have sought out before!

Rand, many times I have tagged you in a Facebook thread to ask for some of your knowledge about OI's and you never failed to be both gracious and informative in your replies. While I'm sorry to see the biggest OI collection broken up, I'm sure there will be a feeding frenzy and some excitement about rarely offered cans being available and being dispersed. I'm hoping you remain an available source of wisdom and experience about Instructionals and pick another area in the hobby where you can develop and share a similar wealth of information and knowledge about it too. (Maybe Half Quarts?)
Thanks again for helping me out on many occasions. Always appreciated.

I received the flyer for this auction in the mail while I was in Frankenmuth for SummerSwap. It has a nice summary of everything in the auction so I am sure it will do a good job of driving traffic to the auction site.
Focus: Cones and flats from Michigan, South Bend, and Fort Wayne. Foreign cans only if I bought them myself in the country of origin.

2023 Shows Attended

* Michigan Chapter Winterfest, January 14, Frankenmuth Michigan
* Cabin Fever Reliever, February 24, Mishawaka Indiana
* Buckeye, March 11, Toledo Ohio
* SummerSwap, July 21 & 22, Frankenmuth Michigan

Yep....lower tag is mine.....that's a good example of an "R10" that ended up with a lot more examples out there (black text in the red circle on back)

Pretty sure it's internet only. However he does do kind of an "online" version asking everybody for "last call".....so each lot doesn't evaporate at a given time.....but he does try to close them about 1/minute.

Rand,

Thanks for taking us along on your journey through the "OI wars". It's been interesting and fun to see how successful you were at chasing down some of the holiest of grails in the hobby.

As for what to collect next - all you can do is find a muse and follow it.

This auction would be easier for me to deal with if the order was reversed. I put 53 cans on my watch list, but I'm only serious about 46 of them (LOL). Depending on what I decide to do, I can probably afford somewhere between three and ten with the funds I'm willing to allocate. I'm leaning towards going for the ten, but the allure of the Class Beer is strong and is clouding my judgment.

Yes, it's internet only except for phone/absentee bidders. The auction is on a few websites, so the bids from other sites need to be inputted and the "live" portion is just Dan on his computer this time.

I won the Leidig's and the "12 known examples" Old Tankard but am really out of my wheelhouse here, seems like there were some deals to be had on some rare cans. Looking forward to getting my first OI's in the mail, tuned in a little late maybe a good thing because I think I would have bid on the Gunther's for sure, I thought that was going to go for more but again I have no idea on these cans. Just missed on that Rainier mountain can which I wanted the most but was already above what I could really afford. Fun stuff, hope Rand is happy with the results.

That was a hoot. First time I have ever done a iive auction besides ebay.
Picked up 3 out of 4 I bid on. Didn't bid too high on the one I lost because lots of them out there.
......Really wanted the Green Brown Derby but couldn't squeeze it in my budget. Next time.

Mr. Lindsly - Now that was fun except the ONE can I lusted after was WAY WAY high!! But I still have my crappy one that is in the book.
Ended up being 8 for 8 - 4 upgrades - 3 maybes - 1 either an upgrade or my shelf isn't in the book.
So Senor Former Grande de los OI's an idea for you just start collecting OI's again than do another Morean sale so in my truly advanced geezerhood I can listen to the Stones - drink beer and bid on your OI's. thanks again roy p.s. Looks like you did OK on your old Uncle roy crap!

I don't know if I could have watched if they were my cans. Wow, 143 heart rate? That's just plain scary.

I do hope the result pleases you. There were a lot of cans I don't know values on, but the cans I do know threw some major surprises both high and low. I backed off of a couple I really wanted without even bidding, and I bid what I thought was too much on a couple others and still lost. I won a couple for less than expected, won a couple others at top dollar, and the rest fell somewhere in between.

No, I do need the Ambrosia version, but I didn't like the hole in the front. The South Side version was better than mine, but mine has good color. And, I bought mine in 1990, so I've only got $75 into it. I'll wait for better examples to come along.

I didn't get any of the dumpers that excited me most - Brown Derby, Eigenbrot's Ale, Genesee All Malt Liebotschaner and Hull's Lager. I went after two of them and lost. I was really interested in the clean Pabst Bock too, but gave up on it when it reached $3,600.

I thought the Class Beer was the most exciting label, but I don't want to play in that price range.

Considering condition & rarity I thought they'd fit best with my Detroit Regal O/I. I really liked that Atlas Yorkshire Ale & thought it went cheap but way out of my price range. LEON.
