Interesting Concept

#1

Post by MI-Cans »

I ran across these ads for a beverage retailer in New Brunswick, NJ. Left to right, in early 1935, has no cans mentioned. Then in the beginning of 1936, he upped his inventory and that included 6 brands of canned beer. Later in 1936, be jacked up his inventory again...more than double what it was in 1935 and that included more than double the previous years canned beers. The final ad from the spring of 1937 shows him up to 50 different brands of beer along with 18 different brands of canned beer. I see it as a little timeline of when some canned beers were showing up in New Jersey. By the way, all prices mentioned are case prices!

Looking at the Hensler's, I would guess that the cost is $0.40 for a half gallon container. It's hard to see but I think it says "Half gals." in the third ad while in the fourth ad, it it definitely spells out "Half Gallons".
