Who's COOLER,you or your beer?

#1

Post by willssoda »

There was a day when people were content with a styrofoam or standard Igloo cooler. Those days are gone and now you have Yeti and other knock offs like Ozark Mountain, Lifetime etc. which leads me to ask, what cooler do you think is best? I had a Yeti Hopper 20 worked good but hard to get my big hands in. Sold it and bought a Yeti Flip works great but little small. Today I picked up an Orion 45. Anyone have any feedback on this cooler? Love to hear how you keep your beer cold and what works best.

I'm a fan of RTIC Coolers. I have the soft coolers in a few different sizes. Have used the lunch size daily for over a year and it has held up great. Also, have the bigger 30 and 40 size for when we need more ice cold beer. Take a look at Arctic Ice, ice packs, to keep everything cool. Right now Arctic Ice has a sale going on.

If you don't mind a little exterior sweating and a lot of weight, these 50's era aluminum coolers a great. They keep stuff cold and look awesome doing it.

Be the coolest guy at the lake / beach / dock / pool party / backyard BBQ with one of these. Plus, it's another way to plug the hobby because folks will ask questions about it.

This old school Old Mil. cooler had a cushion top but the fabric was full of rips, it now has a fish fillet board. Converted a couple more but they are with friends- Ziphippie

My old school bait box. It was painted(thick) so I hit it with a wire wheel until I noticed the Bud Label. Bottom was rusty so I added a heavy bottom, won’t tip over-guaranteed! Nothing worse than minnows flopping in the back of the truck. Can still get at the spigot- Ziphippie

Both Pearl and Lone Star made a variety of aluminum coolers from the late 40's till the mid 60's. Grand Prize even had a couple in the 50's.

This cooler was three bucks at an estate sale sale, and I kind of went a little crazy with the paint markers. I always try to have it filled with vintage beer like Hamms, and it always provokes conversations.

I thought I bring up this thread again. I finally found 2 vintage beer cooler at the Estate Sale not to long ago. I haven't decide what cooler to keep. I may end up keeping both. What I heard, These old cooler can really make beer cold, better than Yeti cooler. Oh yeah, I have old soda cooler too but I can't find a photo of it.

Umm I wonder how I missed this post the first time round, this is the first picnic cooler I acquired back in the mid 70's to use as a stand for one of my 35lb audio speakers,

it serve well but within a few years I had found this pair of Coke coolers at the end of neighbor's driveways.

About the same time my next door neighbor set this out at the end of his driveway on garbage day.

On the way home from Nashville Canvention I found this Bud cooler at an antique store in Cave City Kentucky,

I really like the vintage coolers but I have never bought one. I need to find one from Michigan at a future show.
Focus: Cones and flats from Michigan, South Bend, and Fort Wayne. Foreign cans only if I bought them myself in the country of origin.

You guys had me at asbestos. I'm in. And Kevin, aren't you like a walking, talking advertisement for Yeti? One of their mugs killed my old phone and they cost soooo much. I'm gonna go vintage for the pool next summer.
