Small Cans, Anyone?

#1

Post by MI-Cans »

Thanks to Baxter, I got interested in small cans and have a side collection of them. The first pic is of the small cans that I’ve been able to match with similar larger siblings. The second pic is of small cans that I have remaining. Anyone else keep a side collection of small cans?

Edward,

I have can envy. The Sir Lady, the Strozette, two of the three Special Export. Only need the Stout Malt Liquor to complete the group. Very nice!

Mark,

I don't know anything about foreign cans but that's a very impressive assortment. I see they're all straight steel. Any age to them? Thank you for sharing. Appreciate it. I take it you're also into music? Looks like a lot of Albums and CD's.

I normally focus on 12 oz. cans but since the small cans fit on my shelf equally well, I will grab them if they are from Michigan/South Bend/Fort Wayne/Toledo. Otherwise, I just admire them and move on.
Focus: Cones and flats from Michigan, South Bend, and Fort Wayne. Foreign cans only if I bought them myself in the country of origin.

2023 Shows Attended

* Michigan Chapter Winterfest, January 14, Frankenmuth Michigan
* Cabin Fever Reliever, February 24, Mishawaka Indiana
* Buckeye, March 11, Toledo Ohio
* SummerSwap, July 21 & 22, Frankenmuth Michigan

I had a couple of those British cans in my collection back in the '70's. So I guess that's when they're all from. I picked up those, and the two flat tops at Cabin Fever Reliever for $2 each. And yes, I'm very much into music! Any idea why my pictures show up upside down?

It’s obvious that we’ve got some closet small can collectors. It’s also been obvious for a long time that small cans don’t get the respect they deserve. These are some outstanding groups of cans. This gives me new incentive to keep adding smalls whenever possible and especially looking for the older generations of them. If you don’t really collect them, dig them out and make them available at shows, online, or wherever. They are collectible and we collect them!

Rand,
Using this expression: If it looks like a duck, swims like a duck, and quacks like a duck, then it probably is a can!!! The paperweight is a stunning replica of the actual can, so it more than qualifies. Two of my smalls are commemorative bank cans having never held liquid. One made by Pabst to celebrate 100 million barrels and the other by a canning company to distribute as a promotion at the World’s Fair in Chicago.

Thanks all for sharing and proving that small cans deserve more respect.

Love the small cans! I currently have about 125 of them (mix of foreign and domestic).

Just picked up this REALLY small one the other day. Technically not a "beer" can, but contains alcohol nonetheless. It's 100 ml. That's just under 4 ounces!

There are some teeny tiny Japanese cans I think were made for airlines that are something silly like 1 ounce.

Edward,

WOW!! Have never seen an Andeker small. And it's a Draught Beer on top of that! This is the stuff that makes your collection second to none. Thank you for posting.

3D,

Any chance you could stack those 100+ cans and share a picture with us?

Not sure if Old Crown is real or cut down they used to cut down cans a lot have Falstaff like that. The brewery didn't have any known less then 12 oz cans from what I see but hey might be test.

I looked at story kind of says the Fox Deluxe and Old Crown are not real kind of be careful and know who you buy from story.

I remember reading that article from a BCCA News Report almost 40 years ago. In it, they say that the Fox Deluxe and the Old Crown are fakes that we're cut down from 12oz cans.

Here is few lining the tops of my shelves...got about 3.5 feet between shelves after my latest expansion, so it is tough to take pictures. Mainly Olympia - all different whether misprint, test, can company, lighter cans, golf balls inside, lid style...all different.
Also a couple of the Burgie cans, a couple of World's Fair cans/ bicentennial smalls at the end of the top row of Olympia's. My favorite small is the Olympia can someone cut down and lidded that is approximately 2 inches tall and an opened tab top. The one under the homemade Oly is full of some liquid (most likely water?) I think it list 1.5 oz. on the label. Finally, is a pic I posted in the small bottle thread of my small novelty cans that are salt and pepper shakers, mints or just tiny can replicas.
