Schlitz test cans (1954 to 1972)
I picked up a small collection of Schlitz test cans and one in particular has been discussed. The 1971 aluminum can looks like the 1973 one but the 1971 aluminum in the picture I don't think went into production until 1973. Is the 1971 a test can or are there some market cans out there?
Also, the 1954 brown schlitz aluminum is documented in the book but does it predate the Primo paper label? or was Schiltz working on this after they bought Primo? Need some help dating the brown one.
The test cans are for sale but I would like to sell them as a group if anyone is interested.

Looking for Waukesha beer, water & soda; cans, bottles and signs.

Those are cool. I've never seen the Old Milwaukee and Schlitz with no blue in the globe.

It seems like once a year someone around here finds a little hoard of Schlitz test cans.
About a half hour after I put them up they were sold to a test can collector.

The Honolulu Star-Bulletin had a spread highlighting the release of Primo's aluminum Shiny-Steinys" on October 10, 1958. Schlitz took control of the brewery from Beatrice on Dec 31st of 1963. So I would surmise Schlitz, like other brewers including Coors, were testing aluminum in the mid-1950's based on their own reasons. The Germans and Swiss had them in the public's hands potentially as early as 1952.

Re: Schlitz test cans (1954 to 1972)
Despite the Copyright date of 1954, I would think that can was produced much later as a test can...

possibly but those hard aluminum cans were out in Europe at that time.

Those look like the walls of the extrusion (and potentially the base) are much thicker. But since I've never seen any of these cans (including the Schlitz) in person, who knows????

Re: Schlitz test cans (1954 to 1972)
I've held the Primo paper label and the schlitz and its almost as thick. Very heavy aluminum extrusion.
I would think Schlitz printed these brown aluminum cups up in the mid to late 50s. By 1960 they were using their new white design.
