Tobacco tins
Does anyone else collect old tobacco tins? I find it an interesting diversion at beer can shows and antique stores.

I do, though nothing "high-end". They add up to a colorful and attractive display and the round tins make for some great storage too.

I've had my eyes out on an affordable Kentucky Club similar to yours. I see them a lot but need the right price (not asking for yours, just to be clear).

Monster, nice collection you have. I got the Kentucky Club for $5 at an antiques store in Fairfield Ohio recently. You can find them at a friendly price I think if you are patient. I will be looking for some west coast varieties in the near future.

Got this from a guy that drinks coffee in front of my shop every day. Said he found it in his garage.

We did tobacco tins from time to time. My favorite one we dug was Hi-Plane (or something like that.) Scott Field has it.

Although I don't have a picture of it, I have a humidor for Mule Head Ale (by Wehle).

I started collecting pocket tins when I went through a dry spell and couldn't find any cans at flea markets/yard sales, etc.. They're small, colorful and display well.

I have picked up another tin today, not expensive or rare but still cool. I also included a picture of my very humble native american arrow head collection. Both of which are growing in interest during the dry search for beer cans.

I just purchased a couple of price guides for tin cans and 1 book on arrow heads. When you specialize in beer cans and are nearing your total collection the final cans are made of unobtanium and you need to feed the bug with other interests.

After selling the OI collection, I've been on a mad ebay buying frenzy for beer cans that aren't beer cans. Current collecting rules are:
1) It must look like a "real" beer can in design but not necessarilly size (no Duff cans for example)
2) It must have another purpose (lighter, fishing lure, match box, radio, phone etc) Can't be just a fake beer can.
3) It must not have ever had a chance to be a beer can (bank top lid on normal can or diversion safes don't count)

With that said, among the things I've found are stuff that might be considered "tobacciana". 3 categories so far. Lighter, Match Holders, and those mini cans designed to hold disposable lighters (Bic, Cricket, etc). Just started the collection of stuff, but here's what I've found so far that might be appropriate for this thread:

One note on the lighter holders.....the BIC (oval) lighter holders are much more common than the ones that hold Cricket (square/round) lighter. In the picture, you can see two Cricket holders.....both Budweiser. The one at the top with an extended support top, and the one on the second row down that had a circular (not oval) opening. Also, the giant Schlitz "beer can" coffee maker is in the background :-)

Shouldn't hijack the hubmeister's thread......but yes....that big entertainment center meets all my criteria. At this moment however, I'm doing the low hanging fruit...... staying away from the bigger 9' display pieces, entertainment centers or even trash cans. As to the retractable Miller opener, actually there are two variations of that.....see picture (also picture includes a Sapporo letter opener)

I'd say condition kills the value on these tins. Based on my limited experience with them, maybe $5 for each.
