A new ZIP for the book!

I was going thru boxes in my garage and I came across a couple Heidelberg zips. I thought they were both the same until I noticed the "CARLING" in the oval is smaller than the other one, plus it has a Keglined symbol by the seam. So it not only has a difference on the front, but also the back! It is the transitional can between USBC tab book 75-1 and 75-2. Both cans have writing at the bottom in gold.

The can on the right is the unknown can. I called Carl Scheurman up and he had one but only kept it because of the Keglined symbol. He didn't notice the skinny CARLING on the front. We dug them together which is why he has one.

Let me throw some more your way....
I have 4 different Heidelberg Zips. Of the four there are 3 different sizes of the ovals. A "skinny" (far left), A "normal" (2 middle cans) and a "Fat" (far right). All have different generations of zip top lids. (no instructions, instructions, pat. pend) The middle two have different color zip top lids (gold & silver). The can on the far left (skinny) is the ONLY one with a can company marking (National inside a map of the U.S.). I knew of the keglined Zip version of this but don't have it....so that makes up to five variations of one single zip top label. Seems to be a lot?

Wow, Heidelberg was busy tweaking the label within a very short period.

Who is manning the new composite list? Need to get all these documented.

Jim Wolf is in charge of the digital composite supplement. Best if you can bring them to Omaha to get photographed unless you will be on the east coast.

He is 86% done with the 14-15-16% cans. Are the same variations there? These are subtle enough that we likely missed them.

Thanx.

Good eye Ed, I was unaware of those variations. So those were obviously the ones we dug at Squirrel Camp last summer. I poked through the box from that trip as I've never gotten around to doing anything with them. I found two versions in with our stuff. There was at least one with the skinny oval (left can in Eric's photo) and several of the larger oval with the Keglined symbol (like right can in Eric's photo). The one on my shelf is the 2nd from the right in Eric's photo so two new cans for me.

Those cans all came from the same area of the camp over on the far right side and up the hill a little. There were pits of Heidelbergs scattered around from what seemed like 1950 to about 1965. Probably the same loyal Heidelberg drinkers hunted there every year during that time span. I don't know how long they used zips but they could have been from different pits a year apart. There were lots of them and I just kept a sampling of the better condition ones.
The luckiest dumpers don't rely on good fortune, the unluckiest do.

Maybe they are subtle enough to not be considered a different variation. who decides what should or shouldn't be considered a different variation? LEON.
