For you zip aficionados, is this bottom lid original?
To me, an original early tab has a "flat top" like bottom lid. Heavy steel with a chrome like plating on it. HOWEVER, I've seen this version on more than a few cans. Still has that metallic like coating, but definitely more flimsy. You can depress the center and it will easily pop in and out. Were these produced with beer in them or are they all replacements?

It's legit by time they got to tabs they were making thinner bottoms even in flat top age they wanted to get away from tough to open steel I have had quite few degrees of thin lids all original cans around 1965 they went to grey lids the silver fan tab bottoms seam always be paper thin
That is a 1964-65 era zip towards end of zips

Re: Is this Zip top bottom lid original?
Awesome. Thank you all for the info, really appreciate it. I bought the can as an upgrade, but when it showed up, I was questioning the bottom lid. As stated, I've seen them before, but was always a little unsure as to if they were replacements or not. I don't see any other signs if replacement on this one, so good to know cans were produced with that lid, in that era.
A little extra background below. Can on the far left is the can I was upgrading. Notice the hard steel bottom. Middle can is the earlier no smile beads, finger ripper, zip. Can on the far right doesn't have the "12 Fl. Oz." on the front and is from Peoria, IL (vs. Los Angeles). Again with smile beads and the hard steel bottom.
