I'm pretty sure the color on the gold can is just tarnished. That particular color variation drives me nuts on dumpers--very often a silver can will tarnish to a gold color, and a gold can will fade to silver. If anyone out there checks that color difference on dumper Schlitz or Hamms tabs from the 1960's you'll know what I mean …

Also, did you happen to come across an extra OM "Brewed in Van Nuys" in your big stash?? I had one years ago, didn't keep it, now have been looking for one for a few years!

The "gold" tarnish can also be produced when the label is printed on the wrong side of the can sheet. The "Keglined" side of the can sheet is gold in color. There are a gazillion Budweiser "Gold test cans" that are really just a factory error out there for sale. Being a PacNW collector, I have always suspected the rare "gold" Rainier Light Light tab can is such a can...

The can companies would never sell a can to the brewery or public if the label was printed on the wrong side. LEON.

I would agree with you....maybe that is why they are listed as "test" cans....I would think most factory errors wouldn't be sold if caught by quality control.

Keglined on outside would pose a severe health risk & unsafe unsanitary beer. Look what happened to National can in the old days when there lining failed. Or Old Fashioned green death failed lining. not to be taken lightly, would not slip through QC. Not the same as a error can that was made upside down or wrong color.
