Father-Son trip Through Wisconsin and what we found
Planned a great day with my middle son today. I had to go to Stevens Point for something so I ran an ad and answered a few as well as went to a few antique places.
I have been under stress because I'm partially laid off right now so I figured a good trip with my son looking for beer stuff would be fun.
I found the reason I am so passionate about the beer cans and such is because of the wonderful trips my father and I took. As such, I figured if I start taking my boys more to the shows little by little and doing a few beer hunting trips, we may get a 3rd generation collector some day.
Left at 9am after a breakfast with my two little ones. The big teenager was still asleep. We left at 9am, made a circle in upper Wisconsin traveling 440 miles hitting West Bend, Sheboygan, Manitowoc, Howard's Grove, Steven's Point, Tomah, Deforest and home.
The old Milwaukee 14oz has a dot over Salem.
2 of the Happy Days cans are decent.
The Pabst Blue car works great! A few chips at the base.
The Blatz is a Peoria with a Kentucky Tax top lid and a bottom vanity lid.
The Bock carboard standups are for me. I love the Schmidt one. I have been doing more and more bock lately.
The bottles are mostly Wisconsin but some other states.
While going through West Bend I went past the area where those Meister Brau cans were found.
The Airport Bar called Sky Ranch Bar in West Bend, Wisconsin. The dump is still there if anyone wants to go.
Well before the Meister Brau find the farm had pushed the pile of Field Stones on top of the dump. Would take some good lifting but its still there.
The bar started in the 20s so there might be some good stuff at the bottom.

More than $99 less than $101...
Works great but chips in the lower rim. Needs a good cleaning. Going to a friend.

Also..incredible etiquette by the boys! Placing ones utensils at 4 o'clock does indeed signify that you have finished with your meal. Quality parenting my friend!

Great finds and good times. Sounds like a great trip.
I'd be potentially interested in the Blatz can if available.
Good stuff!

Re: Father-Son trip Through Wisconsin and what we found
Thanks for the invite and the comments.
In the Fall I think I will do this again. I will let you know.
The Blatz can is spoken for. Sorry. One of my Illinois friends did me a HUGE favor. Time to pay him back.
My goal in this trip was to enjoy the memories of my father and our trips as well as create some memories with my son. With any luck he will take an interest later in life like I did.

I really like the family stuff. Your boys will probably remember the trip since it is something different and fun. Good memories in the making I hope!

Re: Father-Son trip Through Wisconsin and what we found
I have seen a few of those schmidt bock signs pop up. I didn't want to travel all the way up there just for that so I waited until he had other stuff.
That one is for me. I started collecting bock stuff as a side collection because its getting harder and harder to add Waukesha stuff to my collection.
I added a Schoenling Bock can as well.

Re: Father-Son trip Through Wisconsin and what we found
This Pink Elephant can be found on the exit of Deforest, Wisconsin on hwy 94.
Since I was pretty young this Elephant has been the background of many pictures. It did not have the sunglasses when I was younger but since he has become famous, he is trying to stay unrecognized.
Seriously though, it is a very common stop for many families. Just a small gas station with a picnic table and a pink elephant.
You can all stop and have a picture on the way to Green Bay Title Town Brewery Show April 26th, 27th and 28th. The more you drink, the pinker he gets.

Re: Father-Son trip Through Wisconsin and what we found
There is a MUCH larger elephant on the East Coast (Maybe near Atlantic City) in Margate City, NJ. Her name is Lucy! Google Lucy the elephant and it will come up...lol
We took many pictures with Lucy when we drove by her on a road trip many years ago....

Re: Father-Son trip Through Wisconsin and what we found
From Wikipedia:
Lucy the Elephant is a six-story elephant-shaped example of novelty architecture, constructed of wood and tin sheeting in 1881 by James V. Lafferty in Margate City, New Jersey, two miles (3.2 km) south of Atlantic City. Originally named Elephant Bazaar, Lucy was built to promote real estate sales and attract tourists. Today, Lucy is the oldest surviving roadside tourist attraction in America.

Re: Father-Son trip Through Wisconsin and what we found
Love seeing this reminds me of childhood trips with my dad looking for antiques.
