More...Real or Just Advertising.
Came across these ads for aluminum soft tops on cans. Do the ads show what was really printed on their respective lids or was it just in the pictures for advertising? If any are real, got a picture?

I know the Falstaff, Point, People's and Narragansett are all real. I assume the others are as well.

Re: More...Real or Just Advertising.
Thanks, Rick. I've seen some cans with the printing announcing the soft tops. My question being...is what's depicted in these ads, what was really on the actual retail products or just for advertising display only.
I saw in my other post that Adler Brau actually put the "Don't Be a Litterbug" graphic on a retail product and the can in the Hamms ad with "Seamless" on the side has never surfaced. That's why I asked for pictures that might verify or dispute these ads.

It technically is not live yet, but I guess the cat's out of the bag.
From MI-CANS
• This is a work in progress. Hoping to have it completed by the Spring Thaw show.
• I am donating this collection to the Website/Chapter in appreciation for everything I’ve learned and added to my personal collection. I’ve never dumped, never will dump, so this is as close as I can come to dumping (digging for newspaper breweriana).
• What you’re looking at are just thumbnail views of the actual ads.
• If you click on any ad, it will display the complete ad in the center of the screen. Then you have two options.
• One - You move your cursor over the ad and it will display a directional arrow that allows you to proceed to the next ad or you can return to the previous ad by clicking on that specific arrow.
• Two – You can right click on the ad and select “View Image.” It will open a new window again with the full ad. If you move the cursor over the image and it turns into a plus sign, that means you can click on the image to make it full sized. (click it again to reduce it.)
• Every clipping has been edited to provide the clearest view of the ad or article. This included cropping, rotating, lightening or darkening and adding a border.
• Every thumbnail has been edited to provide the most interesting view of the ad.
• All text has been hand entered so you will probably find some typos.
• When completed, there will be in the neighborhood of 3,500 clippings comprising 70 some pages on the site.
• Every effort was made to find as many different brands/articles as possible. Hopefully, there are few or no duplications.
• Given my affinity for sets, I discovered “sets of ads.” I’ve assembled over 50 “sets” of ads comprised of well over 500 clippings.
• When completed, I will provide reference pages to facilitate searching through the collection.

I stumbled across it when doing my weekly search for Reno goodies. Very nice and would be happy to dump a few hundred Reno ads on you.

Re: More...Real or Just Advertising.
Not up to me. Once project is complete, it becomes property of the Board. They will decide the who, what, when, where of everything relating to it. I assume it'll be debated and decided on at the Spring Thaw Board meeting. Been on this since last summer. Don't know if I want to see another clipping for a while! Appreciate the comments.

Re: More...Real or Just Advertising.
Thanks for your proof pics. So between this and my other post, the lids are real (including the Adler Brau Litter Bug one). If anyone has anything not pictured here, post it and I'll add it to the picture. It can be sort of a reference in case someone wants to collect those kinds of lids.
That leaves the Hamms seamless (word on the side) can as nonexistent.
Thanks, everybody.

Re: More...Real or Just Advertising.
Thanks, Dennis. I added your contribution to the collage.
Again, if anyone has a "soft top" not in the picture, post it on this thread and I'll keep updating the picture.
Does anyone think I should add the Adler-Brau "Don't Be A Litterbug" top and make it a generic top reference or just stick with the soft tops?

The Old Style soft top lid was used on numerous Heileman brands including Special Export, Kingsbury, Wisconsin Premium, etc.
I will take photos when I go through my cans. I have numerous Pearl and Lone Star soft top variations.

Re: More...Real or Just Advertising.
Bjorn,
I used two of yours. The Continental Can and one with "Easy / Open" (which I identified as "TBD"). I'm open to showing duplicate lids as long as each is a different brand than what is already displayed in the collage. If you can write the brands on the lids I might be able include some more. And thanks for your input.
Ted,
Outstanding group! Using all four in the collage. Thank you.

JustJoe,
Your can definitely qualifies and has been added to the collage. Were you aware that your can is an updated addition to the Volume I supplement?

Edited to remove collage picture and post an updated one after adding pics to new total of 34!

That's awesome, I'm glade I was able to contribute. I"m more into tabs, but I like the Colorado cans, that's how I wound up with this one. I was not aware of the supplement. With all the insight and knowledge on this forum I have a hard time bring myself to pay the BCCA dues. But the more I get back into the hobby it seams like access to there reference material would be worth it? I'm curious, does the supplement give a value like the books and/or rarity for the different lids, soft tops, vanity ?

Re: More...Real or Just Advertising.
JustJoe,
The Supplements that I refer to are the online versions of the BCCA books. Volume I is actually the Book of Flats, Crowns, Cones, etc. Volume II is the Tab Book. And Volume III is the New Cans Supplement (nearing 20,000 entries!!). They're all excellent references and they are all being worked on. I believe BCCA membership is required to access all three.
I did a screen dump of the page where your can is. You'll notice the red borders on the page. If the entire box is bordered, such as your can, it indicates that's a can that's not in the original publication. And there's a change in the number assignment to that can. If only the picture is bordered, that signifies that a picture is replacing the original picture. If only the text is bordered, that means there's new text for a can. New pictures generally indicate there should be 5 views of that can. There's no pricing of added cans.
If you want another source of reference, download Randy Karasek's BMV program. It's the largest archive of hobby/chapter publications ever assembled. What's even better, it FREE!!! Here's a link:

Re: More...Real or Just Advertising.
Here are a few more
I've only seen them on cans from Natick Buckhorn, doesn't get the logo featured like Hamms Burgermeister 11 oz. Fesenmeier Gibbons Iron City Lone Star National Bohemian Pearl and last, but not least, West Virginia
