Real or Fake - James Bond 007 can
The 007 can has to be the most faked can in the hobby. Paper labels, digital reproduction flat sheets, etc., etc.
How can you tell one is the real deal? Thinking an original can that held beer, not rolled. Seems there were several lid variations produced? A slot tab and maybe at least two variations of a more traditional ring pull?
Any solid info appreciated.

Re: Real or Fake - James Bond 007 can
I have an off grade one my brother gave me for Christmas. As far as I know it is real.
The others of this can I have seen all had this style top like Leon said.
One of the best presents Ive ever got.

Yeah, That's the same lid I was talking about. I'd be suspicious of any other lid although another lid may be possible. LEON.

Re: Real or Fake - James Bond 007 can
The two lids above are the ones I was wondering about. The two different lids would imply that the can was produced for a while and progressed through the evolution of lids? There are several cities listed on the cans. Is it possible that one brewery location used one type of lid and another used a different one?
The smoother, patent pending type lid is the one I was sort of questioning. Yooper's can certainly looks legit!
Did some searching and came up with some dealer past sales of both types of lids. Both these guys have been around the block enough times that I would certainly hope they could flag a non all original can.
These two came from the same collection. Different lids priced, the same. Dan has them both dated 1967:
http://breweriana.com/beer-cans-self-op ... -29-18260/
http://breweriana.com/beer-cans-self-op ... -32-18276/
Rolled can:

Bank top lid:

Even tougher while band variation:

Maybe 2 different lids because 2 different can co's? Danielj lid is the lid i always see. I would guess Yooper aholes lid is less seen variation. LEON.

I'm out of town, but if memory serves me, I believe there are at least 3 different lids on the "common" set. I only have 3 of the white stripe, and they all have the same lid. I will take photos when I return tomorrow.

Lid from my only one. It's from Baltimore I didn't find it but the person I bought it off of when I was 9 did. Hard to believe I've had this sucker for 40 years
Interested in all flat and Cone Soda and Water cans.

Re: Real or Fake - James Bond 007 can
Tried to post some photos of original lids on both the standard and white line versions. I could not get the attachments to work however.

Re: Real or Fake - James Bond 007 can
Trying this again. Here's a regular and a white line - both from Phoenix. No question these are original since I dumped both of them myself. As you can see the lids are different.

Anybody have a picture showing what the fakes look like? Are the paper labels all fakes? Are there fakes printed on metal?

Re: Real or Fake - James Bond 007 can
Okay, here are some 007s from eBay:
All are being offered as "Novelty Reproductions" and are stated as such in either the title and/or descriptions.
The cans are paper labels glued on cans from that period, as noted by one seller. I doubt that they would fool any knowledgeable collector.
The flat sheets appear to be better quality and are printed on sheet metal. I would be concerned about these. Once they are "framed under glass" as one seller mentioned, it would become easier to pass them as "originals".
So what would be the diagnostics that separate the authentic flat sheets from the reproductions?

If people knew what to look for it would be easier to NOT BUY A fake.
Anyhow, that's about all for my questions, since I don't ever intend to buy a 007 can or sheet.

Re: Real or Fake - James Bond 007 can
Just realized I never followed up on this thread:
When I made the original post, I had an appointment to look at some cans that included a 007 can.
Thanks to all of you, I was able to make a confident determination that the can I was looking at (and acquired) was indeed original. Here's a pic and thank you!
