Re: WHAT WAS THE FIRST CAN IN YOUR COLLECTION?
This beauty right here. Given to me in 1979 by a neighbor boy that lived down the street from me. At some point he apparently decided to spray paint the seam silver which explains the bleed of silver seen along the top. I didn’t care. To me it was such a cool looking can! I’ve never cleaned it and have no intention of doing so. It is exactly as I rec’d it 38 yrs ago, and while no longer part of my “formal” collection, I have no intention of ever parting with it

Re: WHAT WAS THE FIRST CAN IN YOUR COLLECTION?
Mine was a current Ballantine (black letters) from 1973. My brother dated a girl who collected beer cans (really!). I heard that and thought it was pretty cool. Next time I was out on my bike, I found a Ballantine, an unusual find in El Paso, TX (only remember one store that carried it). Still have it too!

Re: WHAT WAS THE FIRST CAN IN YOUR COLLECTION?
I remember riding my bike great distances to look for cans and now I get most of mine over the Internet. And I complain because my kids are playing X-box and PlayStation and not out riding their bikes. Lol.

Re: WHAT WAS THE FIRST CAN IN YOUR COLLECTION?
The one I remember was the gold bud flat top with the bottle on the side. Some kid in the neighborhood had a six pack of them from his grandparents' basement, and I traded him a Fyfe and Drum for it. That's the first can that I remember. Matt

Re: WHAT WAS THE FIRST CAN IN YOUR COLLECTION?
The Green Genesee Cream Ale is my very first can and started a chain reaction that continues to shape my life. I garbage picked it from one of my neighbors on Fawn Dr. in North Olmsted, OH. Thought it was super cool. Started my collection that day! The Lubeck is the first flat top I ever owned. I was the only kid among my friends to even have a flat top way back then. I am happy that I never let either of those 2 cans out of my grip....

Re: WHAT WAS THE FIRST CAN IN YOUR COLLECTION?
I was on my way home from visiting a friend who collected beer cans. I saw an aluminum 8 ounce Schlitz can laying in the grass and brought it home. Still have that can to this day, would never part with it. I can even remember the day- KISS Meets the Phantom was on that night. I was a huge Kiss fan in those days, it just stuck in my mind.
This picture isn't the actual can but one just like it.

Re: WHAT WAS THE FIRST CAN IN YOUR COLLECTION?
Although I knew a few other kids that collected cans at the time, my first can was a Goetz aluminum left at my house by an of-age neighbor kid who was friends with my older brother. I grabbed the empty and placed it on a shelf in my room.
I remember the can, but unlike some of the other posts, it held little sentimental value and I no longer have that can. I remember my first flat top was a Pearl waterfall can I found in the woods near my house. My first cone was a Falstaff I got in a mail trade after I joined the BCCA.

Re: WHAT WAS THE FIRST CAN IN YOUR COLLECTION?
I don't remember the first beer can I collected but I do remember the first flat top I found - a Berghoff 1887. My mom threw out my earlier attempt at collecting when I left home but I think I still have that Berghoff.

Re: WHAT WAS THE FIRST CAN IN YOUR COLLECTION?
First was an a standard 12oz aluminum Schlitz light.
First flat was a mystery can that ended up being a Gam. I used steel wool to take the rust off until I could see the ghost image of the label.

Why drive 12 hour one way to dig Pre-Tax Tru Blu ales, Genny 12 Horse Longopeners, Gamecock Ales, Apollos, Neuweilers Bock, and Krueger’s Baldies when you can locally drive 10 hours round trip and dig Pfeiffer, Goebel, Drewrys and Strohs?

Re: WHAT WAS THE FIRST CAN IN YOUR COLLECTION?
Don't remember my first can, I think I remember my first cone top. It was a Buckeye Export I found around 1976 along the rail road tracks just north of Utica Michigan. It had light rust & I dipped in Oxalic Acid & it cleaned up pretty nice. LEON.

Re: WHAT WAS THE FIRST CAN IN YOUR COLLECTION?
Before the hobby took off, my bro and I found a couple of these in a barn(about ‘74) he took the nicer one. Still got mine, complete with steel wool scratches from my old man trying to clean the rims. This is the can that started it all for me- Bjorn Ziphippie
