Is this a common can or test can ??
I just brought a small collection of beer cans not long ago. I came across this unusual can It aluminum but look like have channel on them but also have a UPC code on them. It bottom open ,so I assume it fill with beer. I just can't seem to find it in the book. Does anybody know more about this can?

Re: Is this a common can or test can ??
I recall drinking Michelob from cans with that label while living in Alabama 1988-89, and am fairly certain it was a general issue can. It was the first of the so-called "spin-neck" cans with the smaller top.

Also, as I recall, they used similar "channels" or facets vertically on the can body for Bud Ice and and I think Busch Light in those years and into early 1990s as well. I though the style was visually interesting and saved them until a couple years, when I thinned out all of my post-1985 cans.

Fluted!!
They were filled but only for a short time. Miller and Pabst used them for some of their specialty beers...Reserve, Genuine Draft, etc.
Not sure on the year but early 90s is about right.

FYI....A test can label with a UPC that never went into circulation will have a zeroed out UPC code. From what I’ve seen, The exception is probably color variations for a production label.

Re: Is this a common can or test can ??
I remember while in Alabama in the 1990's I stopped at a Gas Station that sold beer & they had 2 different style Fluted Michelob cans. Then I seen them at a Grocery store the next day. Didn't buy any but just figured a new can I'd buy while back home in Michigan. Well, never seen them again & heard later it was just test marketed in a few southern states for a short time. Kicking myself now. LEON.

Re: Is this a common can or test can ??
Fluted can !!! That is the answer. But I do find it interesting , Since Fluted beer can such as Michlob only sold in the south and it only a short run. Does anyone know how long did it last ?? 3 month, 6 months , year , 2 years ? Back in the 1990's , I wasn't collecting beer can. So it nice knowing it now.

Michelob Golden was my fav, and it was cheap- didn't see it until around '92 when I moved to the lake. It was available for at least five years in fluted cans and even had a couple label changes.
Miller also fluted some bottles for specialty brews. I'll dig out my PBR's later- Bjorn- Ziphippie

I also have a production sample that I received with a Bud Light ten year anniversary flattop, both are water filled. Bud Light was introduced in '81 so that puts these about '91 or so. Bjorn
