I recently picked up this can from Ron Small and Co. While not being in the book (or supplement) doesn’t necessarily make a can rare, I’ve not come across this one before. Any information as to history, specifically timeline in the Tampa Tropical production, would be appreciated.
Here’s what Ron had to say:
Similar to USBC 140-07, but enamel gold, not metallic. Also doesn't have "Inc." after the brewery name, which the metallic one does.
I have noticed that there is a metallic Ale can in the book that doesn’t have the Inc. after the brewery name, but not this enamel beer version. The last two pics are of this can next to a metallic can to show the difference.

Flats, cones & early tabs. Ohio cans, ultra clean cans & shine. East coast cans. Rare rust. And, whatever else catches my eye.

The silence is deafening.
Someone has to know more about Florida cans than me.
Anyone? Bueller?

Re: Tropical Flat from Tampa – Not in the Book
I'm not really a Florida can expert but will tell you what I know. This variation was first pointed out to me several years ago by Pat Taylor, a good friend and Florida can expert. It seems that the Tampa Florida brewery dropped the "Inc." from the mandatory right at the end before selling out to Associated. Not sure why they did this but it seems to be the last cans they put out. All earlier cans have the "Inc." in the mandatory. There is a matching Ale can without the "Inc." too. You probably see less of the cans without the "Inc." but I don't know enough to quantify how much tougher it is. Hope that helps a little.
Always looking for West Virginia breweriana from Fesenmeier and Parkersburg.

The future's uncertain and the end is always near.

Bob....sorry I didn't get back sooner either. I have a Tropical ale that is enamel as well. Best seen in the Florida sun. Gunny thing is that the ales were canned by Continental and the beers American cc.

Great stuff, thanks to you both. Joe, yes, that helps a lot. Figured the "Inc." was either on the early or late cans, just didn't know which. Thanks again!

Re: Tropical Flat from Tampa – Not in the Book
Bob....I would have added photos of my enamel Tropical ale but sadly many are still packed up post hurricane Irma. The differences are very slightly but if in the right light you can see it. Now if you ever see a keglined version of a Tropical ale or a CC version of a Tropical beer then it would be worth mentioning.....

Re: Tropical Flat from Tampa – Not in the Book
Time to send in my two cents. I don't know anything about Florida cans, but I do know something about d/b/a's. Statements of "Inc.", "Incorporated", "Corp.", or "Corporation" are an indication of a actual company operating under those names, Thus, one cannot use any of these as a d/b/a since they are not the name of the actual corporation. ATF/TTB would/will not approve any of these names as a d/b/a. Thus Tampa Florida can use the name Tampa Florida Inc. as a mandatory statement; International Breweries cannot use the "Inc." in a trade name or d/b/a. Most likely these cans without the "Inc." were produced by International Breweries until they decided what to go forward with the can design and under what name they would use.
