Big Cat Stout Malt Liquor - Which one to keep?

#1

Post by OhioCanGuy »

Which one would you keep?

Can on the left has been in my collection for some time. Picked up the can on the right at Canvention. I've been increasingly obsessed with having my sixties tabs bottom opened, so picked up this can when I saw it (Wednesday night during room to room). Anyway, I get it home and realize my existing can is actually in better condition. I haven't spent any time yet trying to improve the can on the right so it may clean up a little, but I'm not going to do anything harsh to it. Keeping it original. Question remains, which one to keep.

So... what say you?

+1 for bottom opened. The in-place tab over-rules the condition concerns, which seem to be not that much different to me.

Well the can gods have spoken and I concur. If condition is even close, tab intact on Zips rules the day.

Here is Mr. Stout joining some of his new shelf mates. :smt023

I'm jealous about both those Malt Lagers as both are 100% better than the one on my shelf. Which is none! Definitely on my list of wants.

Ed, that can is off the freak'in hook. Good lord. Has to be one of, if not the, best examples known. Awesome!

I'm game for the top opened Stout if you're going to sell it. PM me a price if you are.

Probably more Malt Lager dumpers than we thought back years ago. I have two on my shelf to match Henry's that came from a NC find last year.

On grade Big Cat Malt Lager, zip intact, bottom opened with North Carolina Tax Stamp
It's rare cousin, The Red Bird, has not been shown yet.

PM's send to Edward and Mark.

So what's the story on the Red Bird? Also made by Pabst. Was it ever actually produced? A test can of sorts?

The Red Birds are all rolled. Back in the 70's six flat sheets were found in a file cabinet in the Pabst's Newark N.J. plant. After being granted permission to take the sheets, they were sent out to be rolled [three as flats and three as rings]; and I don't know why but it is what it is. Recently two more flat sheets were found on the bottom of another employee's tool box which I assume were also rolled into cans. :smt017

Bob, did you get that Stout from me at the Canvention? I sold a bottom opened one there because of the same reason - my top opened was cleaner. Tough decision for me, too, but I went for condition over top. Maybe I blew it.

The Beer Cans Plus boys had a tote in their room, on the night before the trade floor opened, that wasn't theirs. Can's were for sale, but someone else's. Didn't catch the name of who's cans they were.

So, my bottom opened stout can came from that tote. FWIW, the top opened stout at the top of this thread has since changed hands to another RB'er.
