Keep some fellow RB Florida members in your thoughts as they brace for Irma

#1

Post by keithker »

It was great to hear that many of the RB members made it fairly safely through Hurricane Harvey but now we have another one that will be bearing down on some other fellow RB members amongst myself. Preparations for Hurricane Irma are in chaos here in the Tampa area and across Florida. Here are a fellow members that will likely take the brunt of this record setting storm that is now looking to go straight up the middle of Florida:

Eric Claussen storzman
Mark Conklin kycans
Steve Lesniak FLAFUN
Scott MacNally canaddict
Don Moore fehrsman
Joe Older Joe Older
Larry Rothman H8UF
Keith Shoemaker Cantageous
Chuck Starrett Flat_Top
Lance Strosnider in Rust we trust
Ernest Turner ernest turner
Bryan Williams
Rusty Wyar

Keep them in your prayers and thoughts.......

My kids live in the Sarasota/Port Charlotte area, and they have already got into survival mode, as the storm is set to hit Florida early Sunday. My thoughts and prayers are to everyone in the area of the storm.

Thanks everyone. Looks like we will be spared the worst of in on the west coast. Hope the storm keeps moving further east of the state and just spins out to sea.

All of you in Irma's path are in my thoughts and prayers just as those who were and who remain affected by Harvey and its aftermath have been and are. Please let us know how you are doing. I've seen firsthand what these big storms can do.

The eye of the storm is almost as big as the state is wide. So the only place to go is north and out of the state, then west toward Alabama or Mississippi. Here on the west coat, I 75 from just north of Tampa all the way to the Georgia state line, 100+ miles, is barely moving. No hotel rooms to be had and gas stations out of gas. I'm sure I 95 on the east coast is the same way. At this point, going to put the shutters on the house, secure the boat, and ride it out.

I was coming out of the Baltimore area today in the semi heading south on I-95. Heavy northbound traffic all the way past Richmond, VA until I headed on I 85 to Raleigh, nc. Looks like plenty of people played it safe and got out of town. I was driving a semi and in Charleston sc when Andrew hit. Slammed all our trucks together relentlessly for at least an hour. I am older now and want no part of that again.

Chuck - man it's gotten now to the west and Miami seems safe but I fear for the west coast. I'm at Joe's in Orlando - he is in WV this week - come here if you cannot find anywhere else - Orlando will be safe enough. If you got gas it's worth the long drive to be sure you are safe - I left Miami concerned with storm surge - not wind. If you are in one of those flood zones they show on TV then best to drive. Worse case is you did it for nothing but that is what I was hoping for best case.

This is what happens when you're suddenly told that the hurricane Cat 4 has now shifted with the eye coming directly your way......that German cabinet will hopefully be a good place to keep my O/I collection safe.....oh and that bathroom almost looks like one of Jonny Yooper Aho's if you've ever had the pleasure to make it to his place.......the Neuweiler Bock and Kent ale is tucked into on of the drawers of another German cabinet....

Smart. Using that same line of thinking, a front load clothes washer should also work.
Focus: Cones and flats from Michigan, South Bend, and Fort Wayne. Foreign cans only if I bought them myself in the country of origin.

Like Keith I moved most everything up to the 2nd floor or took it with me to Orlando.

Some neons and clocks I just did not have time to take down as they are wired thru the walls to hidden outlets - but up high so since flooding is minimal if anything think I'm ok - hoping so but it's not over yet.

my 2nd floor looks like an antique shop you cannot walk thru

Thanks for the invite, but we are on high ground. 17 feet to be exact. Storm is just getting here and the wind is really picking up. Had one big limb off an oak come down in the backyard. No harm except the big staghorn hanging from it. Going to be a fun night.

I lost a large 40 year old tree, mailbox, 10' of fence, the side of the porch and some random minor damage. I lost power for almost a day but had a couple generators providing juice. These times make you realize what is the most valuable.

I was able to buy a can off eBay during the storm, thanks to a friend north of me. Common can, but it took the edge off dealing with the storm.
