The book only shows one can with the contents on the bottom front (2 039 18). The book also identifies that can as the only two-faced can. The eBay can appears to be single faced yet has the contents bottom front. Can the Berghoff be a test can or a mistake can or a non-book can?

Not an expert at anything, just some observations.

There are a lot of comments on how some cans go for big dollars..... I am actually surprised at the low prices (in my opinion) of some of the very nice on grade cool flat OI cans......

I posted a couple of those over on the reference board, crazy prices for some common cans. I was hoping land one as that seller always has some nice cans but I wasn't even in the ballpark of what those went for. Wish my auctions would go like that.

Edit: After looking again the same buyer won I think all those cans including duplicate Old Heidelburgs and doesn't have many recent bids outside of this seller. Read into that what you will.

If you know the USBC or Lilek #, please include that in the notes when you add a can to the reference.
This is a great thread!

Propeller cans from anywhere but Seattle are scarce in any condition, so this one didn't surprise me at all.

You wont even see the Seattle can that clean. I think there is only one nice clean indoor Seattle version while all the other Seattle cans are Dumpers, Hundreds of Dumpers. Although some are pretty nice grade 1/1- dumpers. LEON.

Thanks....posted it in the proper place.

Side note, I'm comfortable posting OI cans......but I have no idea why the cones and other flats and whatnot are going for so much. Those of you who are more familiar with other cans outside my specialty, please help out with documenting why things are going for so much. I just put up two cones that were 4 figures but have no idea why. Also, "bassin990" has a ton of super interesting cans on ebay right now that are getting a lot of high dollar bids. I'm going to need help recording these once they settle.....could really use some assistance!

Thanks! May be an idea for a thread tracking "other breweriana"......for the moment, let's keep the current thread just cans. But like I say, if you want to start harvesting signs and coasters etc on the Reference section, go for it!

The prices I see at shows, mirror what cans are going for online. As to who is paying these prices, I think the "baby boomer" buyer may have arrived. Collectors who now have extra money. House is paid for, kids are gone, no car payment, and now the government is forcing them to take a required minimum distribution on their IRAs. What better way to spend this money that took many years to save. Can't take it with you. Take a 2K trip or buy a 2K can. What ever floats your boat. Just my observation from talking to older collectors.

What makes this can special when the aluminum version is a $2 can? Just because it's steel?

I would think the return of some of the Gen X kids to the hobby has had an impact on prices as well, they are in their middle ages now and for some of the reasons you mention have a lot more money to spend on discretionary stuff like beer cans. That should keep the hobby afloat for a while but sadly not another generation behind us that is likely to enter the hobby in numbers like ours.

I noticed a few $3000+ flats above, as long as I have been watching I have seen only one cone going in an ebay auction for more than +3000, a Red Lion Ale last year. A few in the 2k-3k range but I have always thought the really expensive cans seem to find their way to the online dealers or are sold in private deals. For those who collect flats or have been on ebay longer than me, is this generally true or are there more cans going for the big dollars in ebay auctions? Anyone know the top price ever for a can in an ebay auction?
