Should these be recycled?
I quit collecting cans (other than Atlantic & Carling Atlanta) about 2001. I still have some of my 70's-80's era collection and am sorting out the slag from the few cans that may have value.
Do any of these aluminum cans have value? Should they all be recycled? Thanks for your input.

Re: Should these be recycled?
Ken,
I for one hope you'll continue to post photos of your cans before you toss them! I don't see much in here that has any real value, unfortunately. But I did notice one thing ... your Pabst BR Bock with UPC is an example of a minor variation I tried to find for a couple of years before I finally spotted one somewhere. There are quite a few minor variations like that--no one saved them and maybe no one but me wants them, but if you actually go looking for one you'll spend a long time tracking one down. If you cans go to the govt. warning era, there are quite a few that are easy to get without but were out for a short time with the warning on them. I'm still looking for a bunch of those myself. Your photos just might make someone's day one of these days!

Re: Should these be recycled?
I'll gladly pay you for the Royal Amber if it has an ecology tab/stay tab. I'd also pay for the Lone Star light or the Heidelberg on the bottom row if they list St Paul in the brewery information.
Please let me know.

Re: Should these be recycled?
I'm always reluctant to recycle cans when there is a possibility a new collector could be born by selling them cheap. I once sold 500 70/80's era cans for $50 to a guy who was browsing Craigslist and thought they would be a good decoration for the man cave he put into his new out building. I was sold 200 70's steel cans to a crafty person who made them into "canjos".
Focus: Cones and flats from Michigan, South Bend, and Fort Wayne. Foreign cans only if I bought them myself in the country of origin.

Re: Should these be recycled?
Part of a story I submitted to the BCCA Editor:
"...Hobbyists appear to have a general disdain for cans of the pull tab or aluminum eras. They are often accompanied with recommendations to recycle.
Remember this, RECYCLING IS FOREVER. A recycled can will never be found buried in a dump in the woods or in some old house’s attic or under its porch. The can you want to get rid of might be just enough to interest a young novice collector or an experienced collector to try a different collecting niche. I have one suggestion. Try to find a way to donate your unwanted cans to the Rusty Bunch Can Dump. It has become a traditional event held at every CANvention. If you contact any RB’er, I’m sure that they’ll work with you to help get your discards to the Big Show! (yes, it’s a shameless plug for that Chapter and for the CANvention)"

Re: Should these be recycled?
I don't think they have much value, but I'd be willing to reimburse postage if they are bottom opened and in store condition, not dinged up and like that. Plus toss in a couple dollars for your trouble. Let me know. Cheers

Interesting juxtaposition...My o'lady says my rocket bottom makes her toss. Something about unhealthy emissions, blah-blah!Diamond State Boy wrote: ↑Thu May 18, 2017 11:08 pm Maybe it's just me but I have never been able to toss my rocket bottoms...

Re: Should these be recycled?
I was able to hand off all my "unwanted-but-I-loved-them-in-the-past-and-thus-couldn't-throw-them-away-no-way-no-how" cans to a fellow RB'er at last year's (2016) Spring Thaw. They were destined for a new collector that just plain wanted cans.Atlantic Guy wrote: ↑Thu May 18, 2017 10:41 pm I quit collecting cans (other than Atlantic & Carling Atlanta) about 2001. I left them in good hands and feeling better/higher/happier than I have with any recent can acquisitions in my recent memory. I hope they are treasured for however long by whomever got them as much as they were by my young teenage self.

Re: Should these be recycled?
Instead of recycling these aluminum cans and the other 500 to 600 steel, crimped, and dumper cans that I don't think are worth anything, I will take them to our summer beer show in Atlanta and give them away to anyone who wants them. After that, I will figure out how to dispose of what's left.
I have sorted thru them and pulled out the few cans that I think might be sellable. I will list those on ebay or here on the RB site. Thanks,
Ken
