Re: Describe Your Collecting Niche
Currently I am focusing on all cones, crowntainers,IRTP's,US gallons,16 ounce and odd size flats plus US 16 oz crimped and straight steel. In the 12 oz flat dept all Pabst products plus any cans I find visually appealing. Trying to complete some sets:Schmidt scenic flats (3 to go-ducks,ice fishing and northern pike) plus Ballantine one face/different backs(Handy way to order,Just for fun,Ballantine Brews). Also have been picking up different colored wind tunnel cans.I also collect New England bottles but am now limiting new purchases to steinies only.Lastly,I collect any cool signs, lighted, tin or ROG.

....and the best mechanism to do that is probably to edit your post directly and put your approval there. If someone is going to use the information, that's where they need to see the approval, not in some other place.....right Keith?

Re: Describe Your Collecting Niche If you posted here and provided information please read the new request - RB Presiden
I am truly sorry for all this hassle.
What seemed like a simple, straight forward concept is now a pain in the butt! I got an email from the BCCA Editor stating they would like to put the "story" in the Nov/Dec issue. He also requested if I could provide real names with BCCA numbers. That did not seem right to me so I contacted Keith for his and the Board's opinion(s). What you see above in the previous posts is resulting from those conversations.
For starters, I have no "story" put together except the words I put in after everyone's contributions and before the chart. The original concept was to have the contributors detail their collecting likes in their own words. I believe it became interesting, entertaining and informative. I had general ideas of what some of you collected but what you posted was really enlightening. The details were complete surprises from many of you.
In my mind, the solution is simple. I replace everyone's name with "Contributor # whatever" in both versions, MS Word & PDF. I then offer it to the Editor to take and use as is (with no names).
The alternative would be to withdraw the "story" entirely from consideration. We can just enjoy it here on the site. Getting in the magazine is not one of my life's goals. I thought it could be an interesting contribution to the hobby that newbies could get ideas on what to collect and maybe even influence seasoned collectors to expand their own collecting niches.
Again, I'm sorry for all this unnecessary aggravation.

No problem. If all we need to do is edit our original post so others will have an interesting story to read, I think that is a small price to pay. I think most people would be more than happy to make the edit.
Focus: Cones and flats from Michigan, South Bend, and Fort Wayne. Foreign cans only if I bought them myself in the country of origin.

I collect cones and flats that I have dug here in Alaska.
Also to include bottles and artifacts.
I've started collecting one Hutchinson (hutch) bottle from each of the 50 states. Always looking for donations on the Hutches.

Looks like I'm late to the party. This is a very good read and I agree with what was said about learning a lot about other collectors that you didn't even know collected certain things.
If it's not too late I would like to add what I collect.
Michigan cans pre-1980
Pre-war Flats
Schlitz Malt Liquor (and other Schlitz Bull products) in aluminum 16 & 24oz 1990 - present)
Pre-war Pabst

Why drive 12 hour one way to dig Pre-Tax Tru Blu ales, Genny 12 Horse Longopeners, Gamecock Ales, Apollos, Neuweilers Bock, and Krueger’s Baldies when you can locally drive 10 hours round trip and dig Pfeiffer, Goebel, Drewrys and Strohs?

Re: Describe Your Collecting Niche Updated
Edski,
That's cool by me. If I post something you like, please feel free to use it.
I suppose most would consider the groups of cans I collect to be eclectic, but it's simply a recognition that most of my favorites fall into these groups and none of groups include a can I'm not fond of. I'll never complete any of the groups, but I'm OK with that. I have a lot of fun and I don't want to have a large collection.
