Re: Krueger's Special
Metallic? Tax Paid? OI panels lifted from the cardboard box that housed the large Canco opener which preceded canned beer? That's more surprises than one could imagine.

Re: Krueger's Special
The historical significance cannot be overstated. It has to be considered the finest can in the hobby, and nothing else is close in my opinion.

Re: Krueger's Special
If this turns out to be real, we just might find out how much someone would be willing to pay for a piece of breweriana. The fact that it is a can as opposed to something else makes me very happy. I just want the opportunity to hold it in my hands.

That would be a good one to hold and examine before hitting "send".

One of the first things that got my attention (besides Special wording) was this Permit #. I don't think the baldy's came with any N.J. permit #. LEON.

Re: Krueger's Special
That box is pretty neat, Leon. I wasn't aware of different boxes for the early Quick and Easy opener; I thought this was the only one.

Re: Krueger's Special
The can Rand pictured above has the exact same spelling of Special just like the can in my 1933 Krueger Article, unlike other Special cans. If it fits must be legite? LEON.

Re: Krueger's Special
The thing that gives me the most pause, is the tax declaration. The Krueger 471 that came after this one, had no tax reference. Also, while it could go for 6-figures......that presupposes this is the only one, and that it didn't fall out of a wall alongside 300 others that look the same.

Re: Krueger's Special
I agree, The Tax Statement seems very odd.
Even though my Krueger Special bottle from same time period has the same NJ Permit #, Alcohol Statement & Tax Statement

The boxes are important to the discussion. The instruction panels on the can are identical to those on my box, and I've never seen those panels anywhere else. I've seen a few examples of the box around, but it doesn't seem to turn up often.

Can't really use the photos as they are pictures of pictures for an article.

Why drive 12 hour one way to dig Pre-Tax Tru Blu ales, Genny 12 Horse Longopeners, Gamecock Ales, Apollos, Neuweilers Bock, and Krueger’s Baldies when you can locally drive 10 hours round trip and dig Pfeiffer, Goebel, Drewrys and Strohs?

Re: Krueger's Special
Chris, don't you have the circa 1985 pic of the Krueger's Special? Looks like there might be a matching white mark on the bottom face of that can to match this one. My copy is so poor that I can't quite tell.

Mr. P......I have a really bad/small image.....but do see the white mark you're referring to. Mine is here glued next to one that looks similar to the Lilek photoshopped version:OctoberAle wrote:Chris, don't you have the circa 1985 pic of the Krueger's Special? Yes, thanks, Rand, it looks like it could be that can. The opener hole orientation would help confirm it also.
