Re: Krueger's Special
The owner of the can has just been that secretive, and is just that private. Info comes out as I get it. I can tell you right now information that appears in the BCCA article or that does not appear is based on what owner gives us. Not that the BCCA sucks or does not want people to know or anything like that... The guy that owns the can does not have the history very far back, hell he did not even know what he had at first. Any questions the BCCA article does not cover you can ask him in person in Cleveland.

Re: Krueger's Special
I'd love to pay $5 to see it in person. Except it'll be at Convention, so I'm looking at ~$500 in expenses just in hopes of happening upon the right room before it goes back into hiding in an elite collection somewhere. I'd gladly pay admission so I had a guarantee of seeing it.
Yes, this is the Internet so there is no longer any joy. Mostly snark and bile. As for me, I'm thrilled to see this can. There are earlier 'first cans,' there are equally rare and more graphic cans, there are lots of interesting things out there. It IS just a test can. But it is the Gold Standard- the can that cemented canned beer's place in the market, for all the other cool stuff to follow.
Being a quart guy, there are any number of rare quarts whose whereabouts I have no clue about. Ditto for every other specialty. But if they're in the book or photographed somewhere, we believe they exist except for the odd editorial error. I can't think of any rational reason to be suspicious of the Special in that light. Irrational reasons, sure...

I'll gladly have my serving of crow with a side of humble pie. The way the photos were rolled out and the date scratched into the top were odd to me...but whatever glad it's legit!

So this still doesn't explain who was doing the clandestine mail delivery....and who was on the grassy knoll.

Re: Krueger's Special
Charlie, Can you at least tell us if the current owner is the same person who owned the can back when the original pix surfaced in 1985? Same family perhaps?beercanexchange wrote: ↑Wed May 31, 2017 9:02 am The owner of the can has just been that secretive, and is just that private. Info comes out as I get it. Bob, Same can, but not the same guy. Marcia Butterbaugh did the interview and will have a story with more details in the July magazine.

Re: Krueger's Special
Well folks, I just got off the phone with the owner and he called to tell me that he sold the can and it will not be coming to CANvention. I guess someone made him a cash and can offer he could not rufuse. Sorry to those of you that wanted to see it in person.

Re: Krueger's Special
Interesting in that Charlie said it was a cash and can offer. So that means the seller is either a collector himself, or plans to sell the cans he received to add to the total cash for the deal.
To get the seller to do the deal prior to Canvention, it had to be a significant number. My personal guess is something closer to $100,000 all in, cash and cans. Really, really hope the story comes out someday as it certainly is fascinating!
