30+ year old find finally reaches collector 2017
I was working to purchase a quart cone from a gentleman and after striking a deal, I asked if he had any other cans. He sent me the following picture and told me that over 30 years ago while living in Massachusetts he found several cans in a trap door in a basement. He removed the only 7 cans that were not crushed and he held onto them for the next three decades. Unfortunately he threw away three of the cans in preparation of moving across country, so besides the quart cone that I had already purchased these were the three that he still had. We came to an agreement and these three cans arrived yesterday never having been cleaned. After a careful washing, pre-cleaning, and final wax/polish here are the cleaned cans. Great way to kick off 2017 and I love copper!!

What brand were the cans he threw away? Did he remember?

Yes, it was three more of the same Jacob Ruppert Ale's. Here is the quart that was found with them. Not the usual suspect for this label, this one is the less frequently seen Crown version (no ribs in the cone).mmerrig wrote:What brand were the cans he threw away? Did he remember?

Thanks! I don't think the Ale came in OI. It would look out of this world with a four panel OI in copper.Canadacan wrote:Congrats on those!...that's a sharp looking can ...did it come as an OI?

Awesome!! A big thank you should go out to whomever found these and preserved them for the last 30 years. Too often, cans are found and then damaged after the find. These Ruppert Ale cans seem to be very prone to humidity and tarnish, in my experience. These three were obviously kept dry originally, AND, after the find many years ago.
Love the copper too. Now all you need is the silver trimmed version and you'll be all set!

The stories are almost as good as owning the cans.
