I was not aware of the Spokane can. Yes, I would be interested in the placeholder.jinsequa wrote: ↑Mon Oct 29, 2018 3:28 pmI have an extra off grade Portland blue one that is not bad if you want a placeholder till something on grade comes along.Pokey wrote:No question, the blue and gold is the harder one to find. I have the red one, but the blue one has eluded me for a decade.
I have seen a lot less of the unlisted Spokane only blue ones than the Portland version.

I've never heard of a Spokane CV half quart. Do you have a picture?

Re: Rarest 10 Half Quarts?
I will bring the blue cv to the November cascade show. I will post a picture of the Spokane cv when i get home tonight. I didnt know the Spokane can existed until I ran into it on ebay last year mixed in with some dumpers.Pokey wrote:I was not aware of the Spokane can. Re: Rarest 10 Half Quarts?
So here I thought I had a Spokane only can by Atlantic and was sure it was unlisted for some reason. I go and look and it is Chicago and Spokane on it, brewed in Chicago and like 227-30. That is the reason I should not type replies based on memor when sitting on the toilet at work without the can in front of me....I am getting to the age that my memory is not what it used to be as far as my cans go.

Re: Rarest 10 Half Quarts?
I was glad to see this subject re-surface after a couple of years - of course I always like to talk "16s"!
I thought about rarity a little differently as even when I look at my list the from 2 years ago on this post - some of the cans I listed were visually appealing or very rare on grade - but I think the "rarest" should have the lens of total known regardless of condition. Rarest in on-grade condition would be a different list and some cans would make both lists
So I started with - 14, 15, 16 oz cans that I believe 5 or less are known. Likely a few will prove to have more examples - but this forum would surface that if members or guests share what they have. I also note below some cans I don't have in my collection I think also have less than 5 known.
I was surprised to see that a high % are tabs
Interested in feedback and input, when I say "known" below - I mean know to me
Bull Dog Stout ML (Maybe 3 total) - Besides this one - there is the one that was in the USBC II, maybe one other I've seen?
Burgermeister - Longview, TX (2 known), this one and the one originally shown in USBC II
Busch - Aged Slow Cold, Tampa (2 known), this one and one shown in USBC I, this one is rolled
Calgary Malt Liquor (3, I've only seen 2 others)
Carling Mat Lager (3, I know Tom Hull and likely Gene has one), to note - there are two seam variants of this - Tom Hull's and mine are different - so that adds to the rarity factor
Cold Brau zip top, dark blue trim (3, I at one point thought this was unique - but have seen two surface since)
Colt 45 Malt Lager - blue bands top and bottom - Baltimore (1 as far as I know), there is a version with the blue band only at the bottom from both Baltimore and Miami - those likely both have less than 5 known - especially Miami!
Dawson (3 known) - I have seen one other nice one and the off grade that was in USBC II
Falstaff 14oz - St Louis (1 as far as I know) - only known from Fort Wayne but found this one from St Louis
Falstaff - Cranston RI (2 known), lucked out and found at Omaha Canvention - only found it existed when it got added to the USBC II website, guessing others out there so speak up!
Fisher - 15oz - without the blue band under Fisher (1 as far as I know - the other is also maybe less than 5)
Hamm's - 16 Ounces, SF - (3 known) There is the one in USBC I and I've seen one other I think
National Bohemian - Miami - (3-4 known total I think this was a flat, and likely came also as a zip, but less than 5 I know of in either flat or zip
Old Milwaukee - Tampa - 16 Fluid Ounces at top (2 known) this one and the one that was USBC II can. I don't have this variation from Milwaukee and think that is very rare also
Old Milwaukee - 14oz, enamel grey. (3 known) So in metallic silver this is pretty common - likely a very short run in enamel before they changed the label design
Regal ZT (4 known)
Regat gold trim Flat (3 known) - Mark Crane got my down grade, I saw a picture of a 3rd one when in Omaha.
Utica Club softtop - Schultx and Dooley both in circle (3-4 known, NY guys can speak up, I actually have only seen 3 total
Others I don't have in no particular order, and if separating tab versions of less rare flats
Red Cap Ale
Calgary Malt Lager
Krueger Beer ZT
Great Lakes Fan Tab - just learned of this can tonight!
Other Possible
15 oz Burgie flats from LA, I have three different - and I have not seen more than two of any of them
Pabst - Blue Can with Gold Trim - from Peoria Hts - have one - never seen another
Ballantine 224-26, Maybe should have been in my pictures - I know of 3 total
Misc Schlitz, Busch, Bud and other major labels - I probably have a couple dozen mandatory variations that I added to USBC pictures as not shown - and could have very low counts of total known but may have been mass produced, or maybe not?? - examples:
- Busch TAB TOP - with black circle from Jacksonville
- Bud Malt Liquor from Jacksonville
- Schlitz SUPER SOFTOP from either Kansas City or Brooklyn - I have total dumpers of both I got from Jeff Lebo - and I'll keep looking to get a better one but no luck so far after 5+ years of looking.
Hope to get input on all of ths

Re: Rarest 10 Half Quarts?
Question; How difficult is the 16 ounce Argonaut [ total known and how many on grade? ]. Not that I'm well versed on the 16's but although it is mentioned on this thread there is scant info to be found. I for one believe it to be a killer in the looks department and could somebody please post a photo? Terrific thread !!!!

Re: Rarest 10 Half Quarts?
Love it, love it! OD'ing on 16's tonight!!
I was surprised that I had as many as I did from Storzman's list:
Calgary Malt Lager
Colt 45 Malt Lager from Baltimore
Dawson
Regal ziptab
Krueger ziptab
Ballantine 224-26
I may have a few more ... in my catalog I put down that my Falstaff 16 shown above is from Cranston, but that could be an error. I have the "other" Fisher, with blue band in 15 oz. And I have the Utica Club with both Schulz and Dooley, but mine might not be a softtop. Unfortunately all of these are out in my barn and a little hard to get at, so no photos I'm afraid right now.
PLEASE, everyone who has any of these comment! Great thread!!

Re: Rarest 10 Half Quarts?
Eric;
Is the Bulldog zip from Grace Bros? If so I've got one and I know of at least two others in California. A very tough can though and a complete anomaly for Grace Bros. I gladly paid the steep price when was offered to me a few years ago.
It's interesting that a lot of your picks are common brands - Falstaff, Fisher, Colt 45, Burgie, etc. One would think that quite a few were produced although most people (myself included) probably overlook them. The potential to find many of those in a dollar box certainly exists if you are patient, persistent and know what to look for. In spite of their rarity though, they will never achieve the value and general desirability of a lot of sexier labels that are not (quite) as scarce.

Re: Rarest 10 Half Quarts?
I believe that Charlie Bacon dug the Krueger Beer ZTs. I was lucky to get one from him at BG years ago. It is by far the ugliest can on my "good shelves" but it is there nonetheless...

Re: Rarest 10 Half Quarts?
Scott - you are right - The Falstaff - Cranston was $5 box find, and for sure value and rarity are not always in line - but ok with me as not a big investment in many of those cans.
Thx for info on the Bull Dog Stout - yes from GB
Beer Can Pete - does your Colt 45 Baltimore have blue bands top and bottom? or just bottom? Either is likely equally tough, How nice is your Ballantine?
