Dealers
Are there any dealers who make enough income to not have to work a second job, or is it strictly a part time, side venture? Did the Rogalski brothers deal cans full time back in the day?

Re: Dealers
What was can dealing like before 2005? I was an active collector back in the 1970's and 80's and then left the hobby for 30+ years. I remember the Rolgalski brothers back in the 70's with some really nice early National Brewing Company cans. There were some expensive cans back then, but I was not exposed to the high end stuff back then. Cones were $25 - $150, as far as I knew. I even traded 5 nice dumpers for a grade 1 indoor Old Export conetop.

Re: Dealers
Dale and Roy quit their jobs in the 1970's and dumped their way all over the country. They sustained themselves by selling new cans and dumpers until they got into buying collections and selling. They diversified at some point, getting into hair salons and, eventually, the tubes. I don't know what Roy did for a living before beer cans, but Dale was a stockbroker. I don't know if we'll see him at shows in the future, but I highly recommend talking to him if you do see him. He's an interesting guy, he loves this hobby, and he loves talking about this hobby.

Other than being a basketball parent, I'm pretty sure that can dealing is Dan Morean's actual job! Wood

I will take your guys word on 1970s I didn't buy from dealers then was a little kid for most of 70s born 69 couldn't afford them think Dale and Roy are first ones bought cans from in 1990s.Got the color photos put few in lay a way and dream lol.
I bought bunch of Bert Plews colored Old Crowns off the Bargain Basement section of Rogalskis was $700 now $170

Re: Dealers
Hey Mike, thinking of a career change? I would guess the best way to do this would be take cans on consignment rather than tying up all your money in inventory. If you become a dealer I would consign my traders to you, but nobody would want them.mmerrig wrote:Are there any dealers who make enough income to not have to work a second job, or is it strictly a part time, side venture? Re: Dealers
Nah, I'm no dealer. I can retire in a couple years and it would be cool to make some money selling cans. I'll probably use the profits to add to my collection and still have bills to pay! I was telling my wife a few days ago that there are guys that do it for a living. She didn't believe me (and I wasn't really sure either).

Re: Dealers
Not quite 100%.... But it is nice to write off dumping trips and can shows for tax purposes.mtracy64 wrote:I believe "Jomama" from this site makes a living selling cans.
