Metbrew Rubout
While at the Cabin Fever show in 2015, a few of us were noticing a can that my buddy Patrick Sullivan had. It was a Metbrew, but the color was noticeably different than any we had seen. But also, we had noticed that there was a faint image under the top coat of paint. Upon closer inspection, we saw the lettering that indicated there was an Old Ranger underneath. Patrick gave me the can, and for months I debated whether to leave it as it was, or rub it out. I decided on the latter. It was in awesome condition, so it rubbed out really nice! I left some of the undercoat, so you could tell that it was a paint over can.

Re: Metbrew Rubout
Curious what kind of tab it had, I'd figure it was older then a Metbrew? Gotta pic of top? LEON.

Awesome! Love the band around the top of the over paint. Nice touch.

Re: Metbrew Rubout
Thanks for the comments guys! Yes, Keith, I would like to find a 7-11's from Virginia under one. And yes, the Lubeck is a great can! I got it from Chris Taylor, and it sits on the shelf surrounded by some other scarce Ohio cans.Leon wrote:Curious what kind of tab it had, I'd figure it was older then a Metbrew? Gotta pic of top? Re: Metbrew Rubout
Didn't think the Metbrew came as a flat top. seems odd. Surprised Chris didn't just rub it out himself. LEON.

Why would I rub out a Lubeck OI? I never had the Metbrew.Leon wrote:Didn't think the Metbrew came as a flat top. seems odd. Surprised Chris didn't just rub it out himself. LEON.
Congrats on the Old Ranger. I foresee those Metbrew flats become even more scarce!!!

Why drive 12 hour one way to dig Pre-Tax Tru Blu ales, Genny 12 Horse Longopeners, Gamecock Ales, Apollos, Neuweilers Bock, and Krueger’s Baldies when you can locally drive 10 hours round trip and dig Pfeiffer, Goebel, Drewrys and Strohs?

Re: Metbrew Rubout
I'm not at home tonight, but I'm sure I have a Metbrew flat top. I'll take a pic and post it when I get home tomorrow. Who knows what might lie beneath...

Re: Metbrew Rubout
I also have a metbrew flat that rubbed out to an old ranger, very cool can. The 7/11 I would like to find is the Hammonton one!

Re: Metbrew Rubout
Here’s how mine rubbed- took just over an hour with the cotton wheel on the drill. Easy rub, near bulletproof ink. Maybe not. Love this can. I should keep going, it’s in such nice condition- it’s a bank. Ziphippie

Re: Metbrew Rubout
Nice job Bjorn! Sure is a awesome upgrade over a otherwise boring Metbrew can.
My guess is that there's probably more of these out there than people know.
Speaking of rub outs I scored a Land of lakes paintover at the Buckeye show. Now I just have to find time to get to it....

Re: Metbrew Rubout
I have a Metbrew flat top with a flat gold lid like the Old Ranger rub out. These are fairly common as I have seen a number of them over the years.
