straight aluminum cans
found a couple air sealed cans that looked different, something not quite right I guess. My book wasn't much help. Some test cans were with these- what's up? Bjorn

Re: straight aluminum cans
Those definitely were not sold that way. Weird ... some kind of test can, or some kind of mistake with the crimping equipment maybe?

Re: straight aluminum cans
I'd say somebody put the wrong lids on them. If they were crimped correctly, then the lids would be smaller.

Re: straight aluminum cans
So probably factory done? I have read aluminum is real tough to roll...is that correct? Does anyone even roll aluminum sheets?

Re: straight aluminum cans
Yuengling's 156th year = 1985.
Don't forget, everybody here skipped the 1980s and 1990s... however early aluminum cans from the 50s and 60s were not crimped.

It all depends on whether you're buying or selling.

Re: straight aluminum cans
The book shows major paint improvements on the Yurngling label that year. Looks like it matches up with my still full heavier aluminum Duke can. The 16oz. Nat. has 33 in marker on the bottom so I dug out the box they came in. I found a couple more clues these may have come from the factory, all found together along with some test Tennants cans that are long gone. and this Polar with a Goebel lid? Bjorntxspecial wrote:I would guess they were lidded somewhere other than the brewery; regular lids on unfilled aluminum cans. How do they compare in height to normal cans? That could provide a clue, though not definitive.
I have that Yuengling can (ABC53-39) as a no-top/never-filled specimen.

Re: straight aluminum cans
some early aluminum Hamm's cans came straight vs crimped - they likely were made both ways - lids are different sizes
Collector of Nebraska cans and breweriana, Colorado cans, tall straight steel US cans, and cans I like!
