Re: What am I missing?????
As the one who sold the can on Ebay, that was the subject of the OP - original post (Leon), thought I'd chime in with a few comments.
1. Really great to see such a discussion on this board re: value/condition/variations and such. I've enjoyed reading everything posted. Certainly some valid observations as well as some wildly varying viewpoints.
2. Truth be known, there were two of these cans. Same variation, virtually the same condition. Ebay listed can sold for $42.38, plus shipping. The backup bidder, who was $1.00 less at $41.38 won several other cans in this auction. I had planned to keep the second can for myself, but decided to offer it to the back up bidder AFTER he had received the cans he won. He quickly accepted the offer at his high bid of $41.38.
3. There were several other unique bidders in the $20-$30+ range.
4. For those that say this a $1.00 can... the quote "something is worth what someone is willing to pay" comes to mind. On a particular week, in January 2016, this Miller can was worth $20 - $40++ in top condition. The market has spoken.
Thanks and happy collecting!

When they are not busy outbidding you on ebay, the crazy rich clowns do tend to keep quite busy.

Re: What am I missing?????
Good Question, I just listed my black Miller IRTP last week & only got 1 bid for $39.00 & mine still had a original top. Mine was pretty nice but not mint. LEON.

Re: What am I missing?????
Ugh. I know nothing about gold Millers but was recently in a dump with lots of SS 12s and 16s. So what, exactly, should I be looking out for?
No profit motive - anybody who knows me knows I tend to give stuff away that I don't know anything about. I just don't want to be tossing cans over my shoulder if somebody out there wants 'em.

Appreciated. So "Champagne of Beers," pat pending top, gold bottom...in stellar condition. Roger that.hover31 wrote:hard to believe but I think it's all about the early patent pending aluminum top lid and bright gold bottom lid. Bjorn
It makes me wish I'd paid better attention to tabs in general over the past 25 or 30 years, so I'm grateful we have people in here who are fluent in that language. I have to get an eye on Kurt's Miller collection someday! Just from that one little teaser pic he posted, I'm over here saying to myself, "OK, yeah. I get it now."

Re: What am I missing?????
There are rare cans and there are common cans that are rare in top condition.
An offgrade can will still be offgrade over time. However, will an A1+ - minty can still be as such over time?
While there has always been a premium paid for top condition cans, I think we are seeing an extra premium being paid for ultra top condition cans, common or not.
On the early tabs, as Bjorn stated, the cans with the "flat top like" chrome plated (silver and gold) bottom lids seem to bring a premium as well. I know I personally will pay more for those cans. Definitely more aesthetically pleasing when handling the can (vs. the later dull gray bottom lids) and sort of confirms the early nature of the can.
My $.02

Re: What am I missing?????
I would say too find a cleaner example of this Can would be really hard. This one is as clean as they come.I would say it is A1+ for sure.....And it's a first Gen. Top with a Gold bottom Lid.
I have been looking thru old threads and can't seem too find one that would tell me how long the first Gen. Tops were used......3 or 4 months??...I did find a few threads on the subject....So the reason I posted this Can is I thought a example of this Can was one of the sellers Cans that sold along with the Miller that is being discussed in this thread?......I could be wrong?.....If I remember correctly it sold for 235.00 or somewhere around there?
This example is very Clean except for one tiny little humidity spot......Which could be why it didn't bring a real high price?.....It is clean enough for me.I have been looking for a nice clean example of this Can with the first Generation Top and Bottom Opened for awhile. They don't come along very often!
