Acid Etched Narragansett Pre Pro Bottle

#1

Post by texascans »

A buddy of mine is buying a large (300+) embossed bottle collection and this one was in the collection. It's an acid etched version from the 1800's I believe. It appears that these type of bottles were not used often in the US, does anyone have any info on these?

Thats common on Seltzer bottles but not sure about beer. Also, alot of fakes are easy to produce or reproduce, I'd guess it is not legite. LEON.

It's from a collection that was put together in the 70's and 80's I believe and I did just find a reference to it on a bottle digging blog http://tmac02892.blogspot.com/2012_06_01_archive.html .
"It was an acid-etched bottle that read Narragansett Brewing Co. Famous Export Lager Prov. RI. Acid etching was a cheap method of marking bottles but was rarely used and is most commonly found on wine bottles. Soda and beer bottles are scarce, so it made this one of the rarest Narragansett bottles."

Yeah, I know that Taylor, He's a Friend of mine. From reading his comments it sounds like it's legite. If so I'd guess it's a rare one, Don't remember ever seeing another beer blob or crown top that was acid etched. Congrats on a good score. :smt023 LEON.

I'd refrain from guessing it's not legitmate until you knew the answer for sure. It's perfectly legitimate. I wouldn't say it was super rare as they're out there, not that there's a high demand for them. Any other odd ball Rhode island bottles come out of that collection? There's a few I'm looking for.

I'm not sure if this meets the requirements as they aren't throwing in a Sham Wow, but if you want to buy one of these fakes for your own collection, one is on ebay right now.http://www.ebay.com/itm/Narragansett-Br ... 35ed3b1a96" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
