Look how rusty the bottom rim on that Gold Brau and how shiny the top is. This has to be a new top.Rod

This is why this forum frustrates me. Someone always seems to claim a can is fake. When in doubt, assume it's fake. This keeps me from posting more.

rust on one end and not the other as much constitutes a fake?!? seems like a reach to me. unless you have proof then assume it is a real can.

I have had the great privilege of dumping with 68 current and former Rusty Bunch members, to date. Got to hit the woods of Virginia with Charlie Smigo recently.

It is no fake. Early tabs almost always had steel bottoms so of course the bottom would be rusted if the can is a dumper. If you look at the Tavern Pale and the Dorf you can see some rusting on both bottoms as well.

Actually, I didn't mean it to be sarcastic or insulting to anyone cans. I am always concerned about these Chicago pulltops. As a flat top it would be a 10 dollar can but a pulltab is a few hundred dollars and thus changing a top is a big deal. I have always had trouble telling when a new
top has been installed. I do agree that the lids could be made of different materials and thus rust differently. Rod

Rod, my problem is your knee-jerk conclusion assuming it's fake, and then feeling the need to post such. Too many in this group do that and it's a major turnoff for many of us. You may not mean it to be insulting or off-putting, but when someone doesn't know anything about a can, as you freely admit, you didn't ask a question regarding it's validity, you just posted it a relid. Was that really necessary? That's my point.

All of us need to think before we post. I've seen people post they are new to the hobby and excited to post pix of their cans, and then someone unnecessarily post they're all common and worthless or make fun of them. I've personally posted pix of cans and people feel the need to tell me I overpaid or basically got screwed. I've seen posts regarding the "idiot" who got screwed buying a "fake can" (according to them). Yes, I was the idiot and don't think the cans were fake. But someone felt the need to post junk like that. Why?

End rant.

Edward

I think you guys are over reacting..... In this day and age I'd rather have someone post a concern about something they think might be a non-legit can rather than sit silent. Rod was just voicing an opinion. I don't agree with his observation but I respect it.

simmer down! and no uninformed, orange,or drinkin posting - only leads to trouble (just kick them when they are down)

btw - if I was to relid a can, I would put on a shinny lid - not an oxidized top

the top and bottom lids in the cans in the photo all appear to be authentic.

party on
