Best name for a road or place?

#1

Post by roy »

Always loved the name of this road. The last place on Earth. It was originally founded by a crazy old man Curtis Howe Springer who named it ZZYZX since it would be the last word in the dictionary, and hence "the last place on Earth". roy

Amanda's family is very good friends with the Mungos, the largest homebuilders. They contribute a street name at a auction for pets and Amanda and I won it one year. So we named it after our daughter its in the housing area that her moms lives in. So she is kind of celebrity in the housing area.

And this amusing pair of names is right near Angry Gary's home.

Good ol' Exit 69. That's up around Auburn Hills, MI, where all the tech centers for auto manufacturing are. I knew a guy who was in robotics at Asea-Brown-Boveri up there. He fielded a customer phone call at one point - a rather perfunctory, no-nonsense woman who was coming in from one of the auto plants to check on some custom ordered piece of automation. She asked how to get to the ABB facility from I-75, and the conversation went as follows. (Yes, this actually happened.)

ABB Guy: "Go north and exit 69 is where you'll get off."

Customer Lady: "Are you trying to be funny?"

ABB Guy: "No, ma'am. You want exit 69."

Customer Lady: "Very well. What's the name of that crossroad?"

- pregnant pause -

ABB Guy: "Uhh...Big Beaver Road, ma'am."

Customer Lady: "You're DISGUSTING!" *Click*

This is my personal favorite. I first noticed it while traveling from Chicagoland to one of the Buckeye shows in Toledo. You pass under this on the 80/90 toll road in northwest Ohio:

Not even in New York City do you get street names like this.

This was somewhere in South Dakota. Maybe they were planning for future urbanization.

BTW no cans or dumps in the area.

They do that just north of where I live and south of where I live. I think its weird. All the streets in Ottawa county here are numbers north and south and presidents east and west.
